Well there's an unexpected surprise, Active Google Maps appears to have been restored on my 2016 S7, at least in UK.

I believe Audi claimed the issue was on the Google side. Maybe Google decided to be more customer friendly. I'm not seeing it yet in my C7. Maybe only C7.5?

I don't think I've ever lost mine. I will double check later today, but every-time I've tried to use it, it works. I do have a sim card in the car, but obviously not paying for it. It is ungodly slow to load Google maps, I guess the T-Mobile 3G network isnt that strong lol.

Mine's working partially. DIS displays Google maps but it's alway done that intermittently, but the MMI is only working partially. The top half is Google maps but blurry and the bottom half is the regular map. Bottom of MMI also says "Google maps offline. It's all screwed up.

Back on in 2014 C7 S6 with Firmware version K0942_3. I had to select it again in the navigation settings in the MMI. Looks the same as before. I wonder which corporation flinched first, Google or Audi.

I bought a used 2014 S6 with no SIM card unfortunately. Which provider should the SIM come from? Also a subscription to Audi Connect is needed as well? Just trying to get google maps going on the dash display instead of using my Android phone. Or just forget it and keep using Android Auto on my phone. Thanks

Audi has varied which company they contracted with for cellular service. My SIM came from the Audi dealer and is on the T-Mobile network. There are other AZ threads where people write that they use alternate SIMs. I believe the subscription to Audi Connect is required. Also to be clear, what just re-activated for me is the Google Earth (not Google Maps) overlay. It layers Google Earth satellite pictures onto the built-in Audi navigation maps. When Google Earth was off, I still had the built-in navigation maps, which to my knowledge are not the same as Google Maps on a phone.

I just checked, its working on my 2018 A6 with a T-mobile sim (Not from Audi).

You should be able to, i went to Tmobile got a data only sim (like the one that goes in hotspots) and the audiconnect features work fine.

Confirmed it is working in my 2013 S6. Not really bothered cause I use Carplay exclusively even for my local radio stations using various apps. Glad it is back though.

Any official press releases on this? I have two cars that "had it" when I borrowed a friend's SIM to slap in there. It's neat but Android Auto / cell phone accomplishes the same thing....

Not on Audi.com, but Audi USA is not always up-to-date. But here's an interesting speculation. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes bought their own mapping company named Here from Nokia, previously NavTeq. No when google stopped working the Google text in the bottom right was only half lit up, before it stopped working it was completely lit up and it is now lit up again definitely Google maps.

Works as good as it ever did.

mine was not working last night, i don't pay for data plan but i do have a sim car thru at&t that works. i buy data plan when we go on trips so i have internet for kids and all

so i just went to Tmobile for sim car and they said we can do 2 gig plan for 50 bucks since you dont have wireless with us. So reaching out to ATT see how much they would charge me monthly for car sim card activation. Anybody running ATT in their c7 ? guessing for wifi devices in car and google maps?

Mine is with ATT for $20 a month with unlimited data. I do already have a family plan with them though.
