Does anyone know what kinda of battery is the OEM battery? AGM, Wet, etc

    Part number is 000915105DG

    https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi__S3...0915105DG.html

Bought a NOCO battery charger that has different modes for different batteries - don't want to mess it up as I just replaced it

    Thanks in advance

That VW battery doesnt look correct...
Thanks for the info, probably should've asked around before I got it replaced.

000915105DG is what they're currently using now for oem ~$60ish more expensive than what came from factory

VWOA must have changed something...as an AGM battery came in my 2015 S3 from the factory. 3 years later it died and I replaced it with the identical battery.

Great...now I'm doubting the answer I got from the dealership as I had to call a few to get an actual answer.

Is your battery 000915105FC (https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi__S3...0915105FC.html) by any chance?

Trying to figure this out because Audi doesn't specify what kind it is on their parts website and need to use a charger for some work. Supposedly if I charge in regular mode and it's an AGM battery it'll cause some trouble, not sure if its the same the other way around if I charge in AGM mode.

Looks like VW has moved away from AGM batteries....
After further research...AGM batteries are more trouble than ordinary flooded batteries....

I am pretty sure you have the same battery as mine. If you search your Audi PN above, you will come across many flooded battery options. Most notably is that it is a flooded lead calcium battery. Most Audi AGMs will have AGM on the label like this one. You also would not have a sight glass on an AGM battery.

This is the original stock battery on my 2018. Pretty sure it's flooded.

Thanks for the info, I'm guessing mine is flooded given it has the glass indicator

Thanks for the reference picture, guessing mine is the same except different part number/manufacture.

Looked up your part number a lot more expensive than my oem one that was $150 (Factory one was ~$105 but discontinued) wonder why the change if its all the same platform.

Flooded batteries cost less than AGM. VW builds millions of cars...they save/make allot of $$$$ going with flooded vise AGM. For consumers...we will probably not even notice the differance...

Sucks as I went out of my way to get the AGM...once it goes switch to flooded type. As the Audi world turns!

AGM batteries are supposed to be better at discharge cycles, but isn't very happy with high heat. Since the battery is in the engine bay on our cars that get expose to high heat, I would go with a flooded version. I had noticed that our cars are fairly good with discharge (very little drain while parked), there's not much need for an AGM - in my opinion of course.

Since you will be required to register the battery with the car after a battery swap, just pick something up that have similar specification at a price/quality you're comfortable with. I wouldn't over-think it too much.

My 2016 S3 had OEM Varta flooded acid battery..was still going strong but I needed a lead acid battery for a side project. Since AGM was on sale at AutoZone at the time, I switched out and reprogram/coded it to "FLEECE" with OBDeleven

For people with issues with AGM,did you code the battery. There is this talk about PreFL S3 not needing battery coding, I did it anyways since there is option for it on preFL S3.

My MY15 S3 came with a Varta flooded acid battery and without auto start-stop or energy management parameter or module. No need or ability to code batteries. Also on my VCDS I do not find "FLEECE" which I believe refers to AGM in German.
Did you actually code or just select battery type?

I did both. On OBDeleven, there are multiple options including binaryAGM and Fleece. I chose fleece based on my research of what US market AGM batteries would be considered.

As for coding, I just used my installation date so car knows it is a new battery

For those battery shopping in the future - not the perfect test but certainly interesting to see how some batteries perform at their price point:
