"Navigation is not supported on this system"

Just got my new-to-me 2018 SQ5 w/ Premium Plus package. Less than 18K miles. As a former alpha geek I know to RTFM, and in this case it's mandatory. I've gotten to the point where I want to understand the navigation system but get the message "Navigation is not supported on this system". Can it be that there is no navigation system in this vehicle? Or is there some undocumented step I've not taken?

    Thanks.

Navigation was an optional add-on, included in the nav package with the digital cockpit, in 2018 IIRC.

Navigation is in fact optional. My ‘21 premium plus SQ5 also doesn’t have the navigation.

Ah! So the next question is, "Can it be added now?". Or am I SOL?

You should be able to add it if you have the Navigation icon in your MMI but don't you have CarPlay/Android Auto? If so, I'd much rather use Apple/Google Maps or Waze than whatever out-dated maps Audi is going to provide.

Thanks for the reminder - I do have Google Maps on my phone. It even talks to me thru my hearing aids. (Yup, I'm at "that age".) Besides, adding a trailer hitch, etc., comes first.

Haha, trailer hitch is first on my list too. I think navigation can be added as there’s a button for it. It says the license wasn’t purchased when I press it so I’m thinking definitely just software. Personally, I also prefer using the wireless CarPlay/AndroidAuto feature. I have a TTRS with navigation and I typically use the phones gps over that too.

@mtwallace85: Go with Audi for the hitch. If you're going to pull a travel trailer be sure to get the electric brake controller & 7-pin socket installed at the same time. I looked at installing the hitch myself - given that Audi calls for 5 hours for installation it'll be worth it having someone else install. My hitch get installed next Monday.

Plug it in... enable Apple CarPlay. It will put an Apple interface on the screen. Carplay/AndroidAuto are life changing.

@biggator: Thanks for the suggestion. Nice to have more than one solution.

It can likely be coded on. There are shops in the UK that advertise adding features not originally available. Just be advised that if you have a mmi issue and Audi discover you've activated it after purchase, you could run into issues.

I actually wanted a premium (no pano) roof but it wasn't available with nav. I couldn't stand to buy a car that had a button in it that I was told by the car that I wasn't allowed to use. Now I just deal with the creaks and groans

@grosen84: Thanks, but I'll not go the bootleg route. My risk-averse attorney wife has kept me in line for 35 years, so there I'll stay.

I did fire up CarPlay but backed off - was not impressed by the graphics and not a fan of inescapable gargantuan technology ecosystems.

It's not bootleg. They activate the inactive software already present. But yes, it's not Audi approved.
