    ALL B7 harness/modules into a B6 possible?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know this will seem like a strange question, but i have a fairly complete B7 parts car i am already robbing for the nice black interior,
would it be possible to take like EVERY harness and module from the B7 and put in the B6 car/shell? Since it's pretty much just a refresh of the B6.

This gets me an ECU and modules more compatible with the BHW tdi i'm swapping into it. There is a reason.

    Any thoughts? Pro/Con?

    Thanks

You would have to change all the airbags to dual stage, code a loooooot of modules. And don’t forget the instrument cluster, since they are not interchangeable (RB4 vs RB8). Also that would be a massive massive undertaking. I’m not sure about the lights doe. That wouldn’t be plug and play. Also B7s have adjustable lights when cornering. It also has a TPMS. I think they also use the electric motor mounts (some of them??). They also have some additional relays such as the rear defrost (you would have to swap the climate unit as well). That is what I can remember off the top of my head.

If i'm swapping all harnesses and all modules from one shell to another, why do i have to code anything? Doesn't it all just work?

Because of the things/options your car doesn’t have? Also are they both quattro?

Both quattro. Same basic specs. Converting to bhw tdi with a bpw ecu. I'm told it works a LOT better with b7 electrics.

    The B6 is a 2002 3.0 6mt with all options, the B7 is a 2007 2.0T S line. Very nice interior/electrics, body is so so. and no, i don't want to drive a b7. i'm not a fan of the exterior.

Edit: only difference i can see is the B7 doesn't have bose and a passenger power seat.

This is generally accurate, but the lights aren't ALL the AFS (moving when you corner), so you can recode the CECM to disable the cornering part I would imagine, as the non-cornering xenons were an option in canada and europe.

Rear defrost has a relay somewhere as you said, likely in the relay panel behind the drivers kick panel. Its an easy thing to retrofit (I did it), or you can just use the b6 climate control panel as they're more or less identical minus the rear defrost relay. The electric motor mounts are only for Tiptronics but thats a ECU thing its not something you'd need to worry about most likely.

Cluster you'd probably want to pop in a B7 RB8 one though since, again, they're the exact same size and shape and it would just be easier to reprogram a b7 one to have your VIN and mileage than to try to make an RB4 one to play nice with all the B7 stuff. If you're ready to swap all the wiring then go for it. I don't see any major hurdles in it, just test it all before you put the interior back together, haha. And just keep your B6 seats, the b7 seats aren't anything special except you'll have to adapt or disable the passenger occupancy sensor.

The B7 seats are the good ones. The interior in the B6 is very very tired grey. The B7 is a very sharp clean black. I got it cheap and low miles with a blown 2.0.

If the B7 is an 02X 6mt manual, the gear ratios are fairly favorable for a TDI powerplant and would work well with a PD TDI mated to it.

If you were to swap the entire body harness and all of its modules, you could probably get things to work well. From what CP and others have said, you’ll find that the door locks/modules are different, CCM and ABS as well, and some more that I’m forgetting. It wouldn’t be hard to run a B6 PD harness and ECM if this were a big hurdle, though.

Well I have a b7 ecu already, a bpw. From what I've been told by someone who tried already, that ecu doesn't play nice with b6 electrics. The harness I have is off a b5.5 tdi passat. Figured I'd mod it and change pin out to match the bpw ecu.

Also I have a tdi 01e arriving this week. The b7 is auto sadly and the 01e from the 3.0 b6 is not very good for the tdi.

Which 01E did you go with?

Should be a cool TDI conversion. Plans to run a BPW accessory bracket and such as well, and PWM fan module?

The 01e is a GLX, which is difficult to find info on, but i've been told its a rare late model version used in B5.5 VW Passat 2.5TDI. 3.89 final, 0.56 6th. flexible/wide 1st shaft. Perfect for my mostly interstate commute at 80-100mph.

Plan right now is a 2.0T accessory bracket slotted to align pulleys. I am wavering on the harness conversion since i found out i can get AWX harness and ECU from europe for around 200USD.
That is an A4 B6 PD 1.9TDI application that maintains the PWM fans i currently have and will use the TDI B6 cluster i already have. And it's EDC15, so i can tune it a lot easier. I'm planning to play around with turbos and injectors on the BHW. If i stay with the BPW Ecu, i need to do the harness swap and its EDC16 so a harder tune and i would also have to get a B7 TDI cluster. I have to decide what my time is worth...
