    PCV replacement in my future?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello Audizine. The battle of owning an out of warranty German car continues.

Scanned my car today because I have not in a while, and I discovered that the car is pulling a "PCV Regulator Valve Performance" fault code [on OBDEleven].

My car is burning oil, which I know is a symptom of PCV failure.

My question is how long before I should address this? How much is labor on one of these jobs (I hear its a supercharger off job)? Could this be caused by something else?

    Curious what you guys think.

You should Google the notice about pvc being replaced by Audi under emission warranty. You can find the notice on Audizine under the search for ‘AoA extends factory warranty for PCV failures’ I hope this helps your concern.

    ^ what he said.

Since you have the fault code, this will be covered 100% by Audi. Not having a fault is a different story - it needs to fail in order for it to be covered.

You don’t even need to find/search for the notice. Take it to the dealer and say you want it replaced under the emissions extended warranty. Take care of it right away.

Make sure you save those scanned codes for proof - never hurts to CYA.

Ummm there are limitations to the factory extended warranty. I see no mention of miles or year of car. To blindly send OP to the dealer expecting a free PCV is not smart.

Op extended warranty applies from 13-16 model years less than 120k miles

The PCV on the 4.0 is covered by Audi... The terms are 10 years/120K miles.

    PROOF HERE, ACTUAL LETTER

    I don't know prestige.phantom mileage, but he's within the 10 years.

So as long as he's under 120K miles, he's going to save a couple grand.

All you have to do is look in his sig to find out the year...

Miles are unknown, sure. Saying it’s Blindly leading someone to the dealership is a bit dramatic... a PCV failure should be fixed quickly. If the dealer says he is beyond the mileage, who knows, they may actually work with him. If he is past 120k and they won’t help, he then has the choice to take it to someone else to fix it.

Either way - over/under miles - I’d start with bringing it to the dealership and talk about the extended warranty.

in addition to the unknown mileage, OP has a APR tune. this could be grounds for not honoring the PCV warrenty.

Which means he needs to be careful where he goes. My local dealer will not scan the car if asked, but not all will.

I am having this done as we speak at the dealership and was told my vehicle wasn't covered - 2016 A7 with 60,000km. Seems like it's VIN specific for the 3.0, I wasn't thrilled with that info because my AAC warranty doesn't cover it either.

I wonder if there's a similar extended warranty for Canada. Everything I can find online is for the US/Puerto Rico.

Has anyone gotten this covered in Canada?

Good point. I have a great relationship with my service advisor and the car has not yet been tagged TD1 (has not been scanned since the tune was put on). Hopefully the manager is willing to play ball, because that is the person who makes decisions on honoring warranty work with tunes. Otherwise, I have connections at another dealer that might be able to get it replaced. Does anyone have a copy of the warranty information for the 3.0T. Most of the articles are for the 4.0T.

I have my fingers crossed for you brother... My local dealer likes to have work come in, keeps them busy, and they are tune friendly. Makes sense really to me. But I know some dealers are total roosters about this stuff..

Reached out to a friend at one dealer. Calling my normal service advisor at another dealer tomorrow morning. Will keep everyone posted.

Didn't even get to arguing about the tune. My service advisor said that my VIN is not included in the PCV extended warranty. Is there anyway to double check this? Still waiting to hear back from another dealer, but I dont see any reason why my service advisor would lie about this.

Second dealer confirmed that the VIN is not eligible. Said normally they might be able to pull some strings and get it included, but since the car is tuned there would be no way for Audi to make an exception.

Now you know to stay away from that dealer... Audi (aka the mothership) would only know if it was tuned, if the dealer themselves scanned the car. I don’t think Audi requires the dealer to do a full scan for PCV replacement, but they certainly may.

I am not tuned yet, but had mine replaced and they did not do a full scan.

At least that’s what that response tells me.

Just to clarify the VIN not being eligible is independent of the car being tuned. Both dealers just checked for eligibility not factoring in the tune. I let the second dealer know it was tuned (not scanned or anything) to see if they could work around it. What they said was that if the car was not tuned then they might be able to fight Audi to get it covered, but since the car is tuned it would be too difficult since Audi would likely scrutinize the whole process and require a full scan of the car. As far as I know the car has not been flagged TD1.

The car has only been to the second dealer one time for an oil change (they were running a deeply discounted special) and inspection BEFORE I had the tune, so no way that dealer 2 could have ever scanned the car post tune lol. All this was done over the phone.

Sounds like I am wrong - they would require the dealer to do a full scan - they would know better than me!

Good information and good on the dealer to let you know they would help out if they could. They likely didn’t need to do a full scan for mine, since I was definitely covered under the extended warranty

Current plan is to clear the code and see if it comes back. If it comes back then I will have to address it, otherwise I will just keep driving and hope for the best.

I cant say for the 3.0T but the dealership quoted me $3200 for the 4.0T
my 2014 RS7 made the whistling noise last night. Taken It to the dealership and the service advisor told me my car is TD1 and there is nothing they can do. The service advisor said he will ask the technician about and let me know how much it will cost out of pocket. While the service advisor when to the bay i called audi warranty service and told them the car issues and its also a TD1. An gentlemen named TIB said the PVC issues is still covered even with TD1. And the said to have the dealership call him if they have questions. So now they said they need to hear back from the warranty department.

Update 1: The service advisor called me back and said their warranty administration contacted Audi and that the extension wont cover my car since its TD1. I told him did you called the number listed on the letter that was sent to people. The service advisor that number is not the correct one. So i called the number on the letter back and had the same gentlemen talked to them directly and then he called me back telling that my car is covered for as far as the PVC issues goes but nothing else since its a TD1. Now the service advisor telling me he is waiting for their warranty administration to let him know the next step. At least it not the “your car is not covered.”

Audi does not want us filing a class action lawsuit for an emissions controlled device. I’m glad the car is being repaired on their watch. GL!

Interesting. If anyone has more information on the 3.0T warranty, then please let me know. I would love to call the number on the 3.0T letter and get confirmation myself. If there's any chance of doing this on Audi's dime, then it would be greatly appreciated.

Why doesn’t Audi just send out the warranty extension letter to all eligible vehicle owners or post a link for those of us who suspect that we may be eligible to verify warranty coverage for this default? I don’t want to make a trip to dealership and hope I’m on the eligible list.

They sent out the letter at one point to whom ever owns the vehicle (registered in their name)back in 2019 i think. I bought my RS7 in 2020 so i didn't get the letter. But im sure the person owned the car before me did

The PCV on the 3.0T is not all that difficult to replace. FCP Euro have a great video tutorial if you decide to do it yourself, otherwise just take the car to a good Indy shop... couple of hours of labor + parts.

I guess my car does apply because I never got a letter. I’m the original owner of 2016 A6 3.0t. Just my luck, hope I won’t require a replacement. Knock, knock.

    PROOF HERE, ACTUAL LETTER

    I don't know prestige.phantom mileage, but he's within the 10 years.

So as long as he's under 120K miles, he's going to save a couple grand.
does this apply for c7 a6 3.0t too or just s6?

In post #27, you’ll see the link to the letter that states both 3.0T and 4.0T - it applies to both, but only certain vehicles Audi has deemed so.
