    Stage 3 Tuning Options

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello All,

Although there’s a few tuning threads posted, I haven’t found anyone that currently supports custom tuning options via ODB flashing. A lot of people are working on it, but no ETA’s from anyone.

Does anyone know of a company that allows stage 3 tuning on our 2.9t platform?

    Thanks!

    Stage 3 Tuning Options

This youtuber is doing it. But he’s in UK and I’m sure it’ll be a bespoke tune that’s mentioned in the video. Don’t know anyone in US yet...lots of custom parts.

Unfortunately they do not remote tune. I reached out to EMD over the weekend. Eurocharged is similar in that they can only bench flash.

I’m having trouble finding a company who can both remote tune, and customize maps. George over at Burger said I can run their Jb4 setup with a custom map in addition to the APR flash to support stage 3. I’m considering that as I like the data logging option Jb4 provides.

On a separate note, how do you like stage 3? What numbers are you getting? Also if you don’t mind me asking what hybrids did you use? I’m leaning towards TTE, but considering pure.

Hi Pwr, no worries, I play blackjack with all cards face up. Not a poker player with cards close to my chest showing no one:) Sorry I did not realize you needed remote flashing and datalogging.

EMD had my car in for awhile for data logging and ECU flashing, and then twice, about six weeks apart to work out the bugs. As the weather got cooler here in Cali, the car starting throughing engine codes as the cooler air was denser.

Original install was in early fall and little hiccups as weather cooled.

Stage 3 is great other than the occasional hiccups I mentioned. The RS5 when stock had low end torque up the yazoo! The midrange and top end was its weakness. It could not compete with the tuned M3's and Camaro SS and Crowd Killer Coyote Mustangs off the 50 - 60 mph roll, but with Stage 3 that is a whole new story now! The turbos are Turbosystems hybrids. The draggy had the 1/4 mile at 10.9. I was able to hit 0-60 in 3.0 but I am sure I can hit the high 2's. The tires want to spin out and the ESC light flickers when I floor it with traction control off LOL!

    SpeedyG,

Haha no worries, I came from the M4 S55 world and BM3 so it’s rather disappointing taking not just taking steps, but leaps backwards in terms of mod support!

I agree with everything you said. The car is a dig monster, but just falls flat in mid to top. Roll racing is almost out of the question. I have a few buddies with FBO and built GTR’s and I am just hoping to keep it respectable when we go out cruising.

Tbh I’ve never loved the idea of a backend flash, I’ve always preferred full ECU tunes, but this just doesn’t seem realistic at the moment with the 2.9T. We also deal with winter blend ethanol so I need that custom flexibility to flash and log on the fly.

I will check out your build! Thanks for sharing.

    Pwr,
I hear what you are saying. I prefer full ECU flash rather than piggyback myself. That is the reason EMD had my car for about a week each time. They had to flash program and datalog, and reprogram and datalog and then reprogram the ZF tranny ECU as well. The kept reflashing until they they got the program right. They actually had to back off on the torque a bit as it kept putting the car into limp mode.

There seems to be no issues anymore with cold dense air giving me error codes and I cleared the EVAP error code with the VAGCOM EMD lent me while we fine tune any bugs. So far so good. The only thing is I will need to upgrade the Intercooler around May or June when things start heating up in Cali. I will probably also change the high pressure fuel pump so I can switch my blend from E30 to E40.

Not to jack the thread but what kind of power are you making with stage 3? I’d imagine you’re probably into 10 sec 1/4. If I keep my car past warranty, stage 3 will definitely be in play with someone like APR etc. as long as it isn’t like MTM stage 3 prices.

    Bullhorn717,
The RS5 is making 625 HP and @ 590 Lb Ft Torque. I don't have my Mustang Dyno numbers with me at work, but that is what I remember. My tuner had to back off the Torque by about 10 Lbs to keep error codes from popping with the dash lights. My tuner ran a draggy 10.9 in the 1/4 mile and I have done a 0 - 60 in 3.0 however I am sure it will do the high 2's I have had my car for 2 1/2 years and I currently have 11.5K miles. I first did Stage 2 Catless back in Spring of last year, however, I hang out with a bunch of car guys and that just wasn't enough to keep up with these guys
