Rear end is too low for my current setup, any suggestions?

I'm not exactly sure why the rear end is so low, but it's not working with my current setup. It rubs the tires if I go over a deep or large bump. It's not ideal and I'm not the only one who thinks it's riding low. Has anyone dealt with this in the past, and if so what have you done?Attachment 224303PXL_20210320_024936317.PORTRAIT.jpgPXL_20210319_225439116.jpgPXL_20210319_225433395.jpg

So in my perfectly stock 2010 Mk2 TTS (55k miles on original magnetic suspension) my back wheels rub (TTS stock is 255/35/19). I think this has something to do with either a sagging subframe or worn spring perches.

I haven’t touched my subframe yet but I did replaced my spring perches. That fixed 90% of the rubbing problem. NGP sells a perch designed to compensate for reverse rake in lowered vehicles including the TT. Inexpensive and easy install.

Weird. Didn’t run into this with my bilstein kit. Subframes don’t sag. Sagging is usually a result of old springs more than anything.

Probably has more to do with the offset of the wheels extending the tire too far out, causing it to rub on the fender liner. TTs are very particular about wheel offset and tire size

I also have rubbing on my bone stock setup - 2012 TTS with 255 35 19. After I switched from Toyo to Dunlop tires, same size, the rubbing got worse. I had the “tabs” ground down inside the wheel wells which got rid of 75% of the issue. I’m now on 255 30 20 setup and have mild rubbing when I turn sharply on a bumpy road but I live with it.

My offset is +35 and there's perfectly flush, however I think raising the rear end 30-50mm would hopefully fix the issues

The stock offset is +52. You may get away with +45 but when you go to +35 you will surely get rubbing. The wheels are sticking out 17 mm more than they should.

You have a point, but that's just pointing out a reason it's rubbing, I'm looking forward to hearing a solution to fixing the problem with the car as close to as is.

So the rear tires where at 36 psi while the fronts were at 40 psi.

The owners manual says the fronts should be 35psi & the rears at 32psi.

I've bled the tires to the correct psi and so far no rubbing.

I'll post more as I drive more.

    Best.

Maybe more wheel liner trimming is possible? There are also spring isolators on each end of the rear springs, if those are toast then replacing them will get you a little more height. They cost $10/side?

Other ways to fix that are with narrower tires, less aggressive offset, ridiculous camber, or raise the ride height with a spring spacer.

Absolutely, I haven't grinded down anything yet, but I will be purchasing new spring seats spacers to increase the hight.so far setting the proper psi did solve alot of the rubbing while driving on the street.

Happy to help. On my TTS on stock/original suspension it helped but didn’t fully eliminate the rubbing. Hopefully in your case it’s just the few millimeters of clearance you need.

I'm looking forward to seeing the improvement and not hearing the rubbing.

Del Mar - reviving your thread…

In addition to above, to solve my rubbing issues I ended up installing CTS subframe bolts with collars. These made an instant difference because I never associated the subframe with fender rubbing. My rear wheels no longer rub on my stock 255/35/19s. This is what solved it for me. An easy DIY under 100 USD.

THANK YOU ,THANK YOU, THANK YOU, .

I'm reading up on the "why" re the subframe and I have to admit I never connected the two myself either.

I'm putting in the order from my tuner shop (Strictly European Motors) which happens to be my local CTS dealer.

Hopefully this part and the bushings you recommended will solve the problem of the rubbing fender for me as well. Fingers crossed.

I'm a fan of the meaty fitment or "retro motorsports" look therefore I hope that this is a permanent solution.

BTW, what are your thoughts on this item linked below? Comparing it to the CTS version.

It looks very similar, and I'm a huge fan of 034. I'm sure it would work just as well. Keep me posted.

I came across an 034 Rear Subframe Mount Insert Kit, 8J/8P Audi TT on one of the vendor sites I normally use, SKU: 034-601-0039.

However, I had already ordered this product, CTS TURBO REAR SUBFRAME BUSHING INSERT Code: CTS-HW-216 from my local CTS dealer.

The big question is will the two parts work together? @flyboy02 do you have any pictures of the CTS shim bolts installed?

I dont, but you can't see much anyway. I believe the bolt itself is OEM. Its a little shorter than the one it replaces though. It seems like the important piece is the collar.

@flyboy02 do you think the bolt is shorter because of the spherical collar? Did you install it with the collar facing the interior of the bushing like a male and female bolt relationship?

I've seen people use the 034 insert and the OEM Audi bolt aligns within the machined face of the insert. However I am having a hard time finding any literature about the CTS shim kit being installed.

I hypothesize that the CTS shim goes into the bushing and therefore has an impact on the movement of the bushing in the mount. If that's the case then the 034 mount insert could just go overtop of the collar and the bolt would go directly through both.

If you have any insight that would be great because the shop already quoted me 1.5hrs of labor to put the shims and the suspension perch on the car. I would be great to find out if they would work together.

I think you have a solid hypothesis. And yes, the collar goes into the bushing. It might be overkill to go with both, unless you’re really looking to firm up the subframe. I’d try the solution you’ve already paid for first.

Also, no need for a shop, you can jack up the car and do one bolt at a time.

True, but I need to have the suspension perch bushings installed as well.

It's less of f a headache (time wise) to go to the shop and pay for it to be done than to do it myself.

I've ordered both, as both are in stock and ready for pickup. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Best.
