    RS7 Maintenance Costs

Hi everyone, I’m seriously considering getting a used 2015-2016 RS7 for my next car. Really the only thing that makes me nervous about it is the maintenance costs associated with it. Im hoping to get an idea of the average yearly maintenance cost for an RS7 with 40-50k miles. Also any big problems or other maintenance issues/stories, good or bad, would be great. Thanks in advance for the help!

Probably more depends on the amount of miles you drive and your driving style.

I don’t have an RS, but really the only maintenance difference between the S and RS, are brakes - which shouldn’t be factors into “yearly maintenance costs”. Both variants have the same oil separator (PCV) and oil screen issue, which the former is covered by a factory extended warranty. Oil screen replacement/removal/relocation is a necessity for any of these 4.0t cars - $9k+ job if it causes turbo failure.

Motor mounts are also known to fail on both variants: ~$2000+ job depending who you have do it. Control arm failure is less common, but still happens.

Getting right down to it, yearly maintenance for me is two oil changes, which I do myself for less than $90, or $180 a year. Wipers: $50 (I change them yearly. Kinda OCD). Other than preventative maintenance, actually yearly maintenance is hardly anything!

Enjoy the car! Drive the heck out of it!

Plenty of threads from new and potential owners here. Another big one is ceramic brakes are something like $10k at around 100k miles.

In general not much is cheap on these cars, especially if you are not doing the work yourself. A good Audi shop nearby will be a bonus vs having to go to the dealer for everything. At least the RS comes with the ZF 8-speed which is much more durable than the S DSG.

Get the turbo oil strainer fixed would be step 1 I would think. Rev G strainer or go with the oil strainer relocation kit.

I don't mean to hi-jack your thread, but was wondering are the yearly maintenance items really necessary based on time vs mileage? I have a 40k coming up, but my vehicle only has 17k on the clock. Independent shop says to wait since driveline fluids only break down with mileage, where as dealer obviously recommends doing the service based on time elapsed. Oil changes I do yearly regardless (1100 miles since the last change), but just wondering what others do? Thanks.

My personally opinion is: yes, depending on what the maintenance item is. I personally changed my brake fluid at 11,500k miles, but the car was 6 years old - brake fluid becomes much more acidic with age.

I don’t have results to back this up, but any oil over time with heating/cooling cycles, environmental variables from humidity, temp changes, will break down over time. I would personally change certain fluids, even if not at the mileage recommendation.

Can't prove it, but I've always thought time set the maximum maintenance interval, then one adjusted forward based on other factors such as mileage, dusty driving conditions, etc. So for preventive maintenance, even if the mileage is low when the clock strikes do the servicing. Possibly the fluids could be stretched out, but the cost is relatively low so why take any risk? I'm already saving by using an independent rather than dealer, and DIY folk save even more as many of the mail-order Audi parts places (e.g., Blau) sell kits for specific service intervals.

I just purchased a 2017 Audi RS7 Performance with 10K miles. I just got it yesterday, but I scheduled a 10K visit with Audi St. Paul. Does anyone know what the actual cost is for the 10K service on the RS7 Performance? Much obliged in advance.

It’s one of the more inexpensive services, since it’s just an oil change and visual checks. Oil change is ~$140 near me from the dealer (why I do it myself for (~$90). Labor cost to do all the other checks, so likely $200-300.

Knowing Audi, they may try to recommend brake fluid change - service schedule states every 2yrs regardless of miles. That’d be a few hundred bucks extra.

That's impressively low mileage. Did it come with any service records? As MattyMarkey writes, some things should be maintained based on time passed, not just mileage.

Alabama makes a great point. Might’ve been worth it to say earlier… When I bought my S7, it was 6yrs old, but also with very low miles; only 11k. Which means both of our cars sat for longer periods of time and potentially very short trips. Oil change is definitely a must - breaks down over time- but climate conditions and where it was stored also factor in what else I would personally check/replace.

I had my coolant flushed and brake fluid changed at the dealer. Changed the spark plugs and tested the motor mounts myself (one mount needed to be replaced). A year later, I also did a tranny service. We don’t have the same transmission, so you likely should be good there with the ZF8.

    Food for thought.
