Best intake for B8 SQ5 that works with APR Ultracharger?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My old APR intake has really seen its better days. Would like a new intake that works well with the ultracharger, but not sure it that changes intake at all or if any still work. Who's the go-to highest flowing intake out right now? IDC about carbon fiber, i'd prefer it isn't.

Also- side note, i want to get rid of stock exhaust, I have JRM cat delete, and IE mid's but the big suitcase and 2 rear muffler stock. And if i delete it all, for 2 vibrant mufflers what do i need to do for the exhaust flap plug ins? Cancellers or just not be plugged in is fine?

As far as other intakes working with your Ultra Charger I don't believe you will find that without doing a little modification to make your own throttle pipe connection. O34 makes a very nice intake as well but I know they have been back ordered and are tough to get a hold of. Other then that you could look onto I.E but I would stay away from CTS and Rock Euro. Your APR intake most definitely is not a restriction so you are swapping it out purely for cosmetic reasons. A brand new filter for that APR intake is only 60.00 of the heat shielding is still in good shape.

As far as deleting the OEM exhaust and replacing it with 2 vibrant resonators, that will sound great as long as you never start the engine again. You will have to at least add one of the big Magnaflow 1100 series crossover mufflers in there in place of the suitcase somewhere to give it a fighting chance.

For the connectors for the exhaust, just leave them unplugged, you'll have a soft code, but no engine light. My AWE came with blank connectors for them.

LOL, did you try this? I want to remove weight and my stock mufflers are literally blown out from 300 plus 1/4 mile runs It is awful and sounds raspy and if something is rattling all around in mufflers.

No but there are hundreds of posts on the B8 S4 forums about trying to make a catless exhaust sound good while limiting drone and rasp. A couple vibrants and a Magnaflow. That seems to be the minimum requirement. Moving the Magnaflow farther towards the rear of the car will help keep it from burning up.

Highly recommend the AWE exhaust if you're looking for good sound. It's worth the money and then some.

Will this replace the big mid suitcase also?

Out of curiosity, are you saying to stay away from CTS and RocEuro for the Ultracharger upgrade or should I stay away from them in general? I was under the impression CTS and RocEuro were the best bang for your buck if you need an open-air intake.

Why would anyone need an open-air intake?

In a few of their video chats 034 said they put a filter from a CTS / RocEuro intake on their flow bench and it didn't do well at all. So I would say for the every day 3.0TFSI looking for some extra sound it's probably fine but if you are going to go all out with your build I wouldn't chance it. The OP is chasing a 10 second 1/4 so it's fair to say that he is looking to avoid any restriction in his intake.

You know back when I got into the 3.0T Q5 game lots of people would say " you don't need a open intake " the stock airbox flows great , add a filter and punch some holes in the stock box. At that time we were also impressed with 12sec 1/4 mile times that were trapping 112mph. Now the platform has progressed quite a bit and we have a road map to turn your daily driver grocery getter into a low 11sec machine that traps 120mph+. We also have a few guys knocking on the door of a high 10. Why wouldn't I run an engineered intake, flow bench tested to out perform a OEM box on a Dual pulley STG2 3.0TFSI ?

Even if someone actually flow benched a Swiss cheesed stock box and it flowed enough air not to be a restriction above 7K RPMs at any power level obtainable on this platform I would still pony up the cash for a well engineered open intake just to hear all those glorious Supercharger sounds

If open-air intakes have been proven to work better on the 3.0T platform then that makes perfect sense you would go that route. I don't have a 3.0T but in my experience on other vehicles, going through many different aftermarket intakes, the open v. closed aspect did not make much difference. The intakes with the largest filter and piping that would fit with as few and smooth bends as possible would perform best, whether open or closed.

With that said, I am not one to second guess anyone in the 11s knocking on 10s, keep it up!

Ok, that makes more sense. I never plan on tracking my car, so I think I'll be ok. All I really care about is sounding like a hellcat haha

Then you will be good to go. The intakes with metal throttle body pipes seem to produce even more aggressive Supercharger whine then the ones with silicon or carbon pipes.
