Anyone interested in color mfd???

Hey guys so I’ve been rebuilding clusters here and there on the side. Recently started doing more and more audi clusters. I will be doing a bulk order for 3dcolor mfd. Curious if there is any interest in this product???

Not necessarily. There will be those that arent too comfortable with cutting traces and soldering tiny pads on their clusters. Its all about getting the product to the end user and providing a great upgrade over stock and also the ability to scan for engine codes through the stalk as well as clearing codes and reading stock value blocks and then some. Looking at doing a group buy for those interested and possibly selling some installs as well if anyone doesnt want to be bothered with disassembly and soldering.

Guessing you can only buy them in bulk? Since I can't see any price info on their site. I've been curious about it for a while now after seeing some videos of them in action since it is a major upgrade over stock and would be great ease of use function to check codes without needing your laptop or phone.

No you can purchase directly from them I found that the best way to contact them via their facebook group. I just ordered 5 for myself and some customers that requested the upgrade on b5 s4's,a6 and allroads. But they are made to fit b6 and b7 cars aswell as audi tt's. They are also in the testing phase in the c6 a6 cars right now.

On another note, if I sent you my original A4 cluster and an S4 cluster could you swap over the color DIS into my original cluster?

In regards to your question I am not sure if just the color screen can be swapped,also due to the age of these clusters 9 times out of 10 if this was possible the ribbons always fall apart of the pins fail during removal. Normally a cluster swap is easier to do. Swap in a s4 cluster is your best bet or get a color mfd installed. S4 cluster will be a nice budget upgrade but colormfd is more money but also a good invesment based on the features it has as seen in the video.

That MFD is pretty cool...I would need freedom units though (assuming you can choose units?)
And I have had an S4 cluster sitting in my garage for 2 or 3 years now. Just havent pulled the trigger on installing it because I can't decide if having the S4 logo on my cluster will bother me or not. I can see what you mean about the ribbons and pins though. I guess a better route would be swapping my A4 cluster face into the S4 cluster? Is that a better way to go?

I'd be down for the RB8 cluster in my b7! What are you thinking on turnaround time? since I don't really NEED my car I'd be down to ship you my cluster for retrofitting assuming the turnaround isn't too long.

Edit: I'll actually temper my enthusiasm a bit given I just looked at an install guide which makes it seem like a TON of soldering and wiring. You experienced in PCB soldering?

I've been replacing screens in cluster for the last 10 years. I don't see a problem, lol. The key is knowing what your doing and having the right tools to do the job. If I wasn't experienced I wouldn't offer the service to begin with. Turn around time probably 4 to 5 days depending on where you are.

If you look at the guide whoever did the tutorial either got the wires too hot or didnt have alot of experience soldering or the correct tools to do a seamless job as some of the joint you can tell got real hot.

Cool, appreciate your answer. I’m far (quite far) from an expert solderer but I do know the smaller parts get the trickier it is do a clean soldering job, and tools and prep (as with many things in life) makes all the difference. I’ll shoot you a PM a little later on.

Correct, the stock audi lcd screen pitch is 1.0mm so fairly small need to have the right tools for the job to do it right and the skill set as well. Attached are some pictures of cluster and some other pcb repairs.

Hot air is mostly used to desolder or rework certain hard to access joints. You need a decent quality soldering iron with temperature control to solder successfully. A good flux doesn’t hurt either.

This is awesome! What would be the costs of sending a cluster for TLC? Ive got some dying pixels but not too bad but the ability for more data is awesome! Ive also never pulled a B6 cluster. Im used to older stuff.

Pulling a cluster is insanely easy. You pop the cover off on the bottom and it’s two screws. Pull it partway out, unplug the two connectors and you’re done. Super easy.

AS others have mentioned pulling the cluster takes no more than a total of 2 or 3 minutes at most. Be careful not to drop the screws. Deerhust are you looking for a red monochrome replacement lcd??

My red monochrome works fine until it gets hot such as a hot day and sitting in the sun in a black car then the top few lines fade out.

I'd be interested in knowing more about the color setup. I've read a tiny bit about qmatis and colormfa bit doesn't really understand fully what is required for any other the setups or what I'd get out of it.

My monochrome works just fine but if I can find a worthwhile reason to upgrade to color I don't think I'd think to hard on it.

Colormfd gives your more features and you can access alot more data on the screen in addition reading and clearing faults without any other tool just by using the stalk switch.

What you there features?

I'm not too concerned about clearing faults. Rarely see them and I've got an OBD dongle connected to my android head unit all the time plus VCDS in the toolbox.

I have a cluster from my old A4, same year as my current car. The chime in the new cluster doesn't work. I replaced the speaker and still nothing. Wondering if I could send you my old cluster to mod and make work in my new car? Isn't the immo in the cluster? I have an immo defeated ECM so not sure if that matters. Are you able to program the correct mileage onto the clusters?

Immo is in the cluster. With immo off in ecu car will start but cluster still needs to see a matching key in order to work even with immo off. As far as the chime goes did you try changing the coding in the cluster?? It is possible perhaps its turned off?? If not the speaker chime does fail but usually there is a issue with the lighting circuit of the cluster or transformer pretty common. Yes I can match odometer as needed. Normally cluster swap I need ecu and keys to match it all together. Only other way to do it would be to have a dump from ecu or from original clsuter and new cluster and transfer the data. If you need more information message me .

That is exactly what mine did for years..until I replaced it with a new red display.

Fortunately the cluster later failed for other reasons and it gave me the excuse to get a 2005 S4 cluster.

Very interested. I did realize that there are a few options to do this.

Color MFD. Color MFA ( same basic idea from different people) and QMatis

I plan on digging in a bit before I decide. Color clusters are not that expensive, that seems to make the Qmatis a decent option.

Yes set to 1 to make it active. I believe coding in the cluster also has the option for the gong to turn it on and off. Do you have a seat belt chime?? If not check coding in cluster. If you have second to last digit as a "0" seat belt chime is turned off. Also what is the fifth digit of the coding in the cluster?? 2 or 0??

Sorry I havent had the time to get to this just yet. 07K swap and making parts is taking up alot of my time among my daily responsibilities. I will make it a goal to get this done this month though.
