Slightly bummed about RS6 interior after seeing SQ7 and RSQ8.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I thought Audi would put the best of the best in the RS6. Both my wife's SQ7 and my neighbor's RSQ8 have Alcantara headliners and the front seats are a step up from the RS6. The front seats have adjustable thigh and torso side bolsters along with powered adjustable thigh support/extender.(and massage functions) The front edge of the lower part of the seat "rolls" forward to extend under your legs. Really cool. Was it cost or weight savings for our cars?? RS7 owners can chime in. I like my seats and ignorance would be bliss if I didn't have an SQ7 or RSQ8 nearby. But my neighbor's RSQ8 does seem to have a smaller rear cargo area than the RS6. Ha! Would the "comfort seats" option for the RS6 have adjustable side bolsters? Just needed to vent.

A lot of people have complained about the lack of an alcantara headliner, and I believe Audi *may* bring it back for MY22– not 100%, but my sources have indicated a good chance.

I’m working with several customers to do the complete swap— it’s feasible. :)

The alcantara headliner is what Audi is holding back as they usually do to incentivize upcoming model years.

Just in case you didn’t realize it...there is a thigh support that extends from front of seat. It is just manual. Didn’t know if you meant it wasn’t there at all or just not powered.

Also, I ordered the OEM alcantara headliner from Chris (above) and am going to have dealer do the install. So it can be done, just obviously more expensive than as an original option.

I agree with you on the seats

Once u sit in a sq7 or rsq8 the seats in a rs6 are inferior

Sq7 is the best bang for buck car audi makes

Seems the price on this is getting requested quite a bit. Easy to price, configure with visors if needed, add your VIN to make sure the right parts are supplied:

    Headliner Package | Alcantara (Avant)
    <-Click for More Information

Genuine alcantara trimmed headliner packages featuring all the needed genuine components to complete your interior. Comes complete with the headliner, upper A-pillar, upper B-pillar, upper C-pillar, upper D-pillar trims and trunk upper trim along with top option to add matching alcantara labelless sun visors.

I’ve had my car for a month now, I don’t think I’ve ever even looked at the headliner. To each his own I guess.

Same, I got mine in November... Put a gun to my head and I'm not sure I could even describe the headliner material. Who's looking up while they're driving? Or even parked for that matter? LoL

Some folks love the little details though, and that's ok. I don't get it, but I get people having preferences. I just clearly don't have one in this instance :)

I was initially of the same opinion. I made the mistake of ordering label-less visors. After installing those I thought “these would look nicer in Alcantara and would tie into the door card.”

$$$s later I’m about to have all the OEM parts that probably should have come with the car to begin with: headliner, heated FBW, leather airbag, Euro cup holder.

    Someone send help.

Yeah, I'm not an alcantara fan in general. Regardless, the door card is just random being the only piece that's alcantara without a tie-in somehow. Needs a rug ;)

I agree. The factory gave a 3k credit on the package that originally included it when it was discontinued. Wonder what installation runs.

Im not sure if I'm missing something here, but when I had my 911 and had the Alcantara roof liner/posts/pilars - that was the LAST of my concerns with the car interior lol.

Who is looking at their roof liner while driving????

Keeping in mind that they’re *substituting* the standard headliner for that $3k. It’s not as if the $3k gives you both a standard and alcantara one.

I would say installation would be around 5-7 hours at a shop.

Is it $5k, plus shipping and labor?

I would imagine that the headliner, coming from Europe in one piece and not foldable, would cost a fortune to mail.

    Including shipping.

We ship the headliners on a pallet, braced all around.

Sport seat options typically have fewer frills like massage. I prefer aesthetics and function in a seat and within those regards, the sport seat delivers IMO.

That's why there is an offered comfort seat option in the RS6.

Alcantara headliner ... would have been nice, especially on pillars, as I'd like it to match the door inserts.

Interesting my 2021 RS7 that I bought off a US dealer lot in April came with an Alcantara headliner as a $3k option... perhaps there was some complexity manufacturing one for the RS6's additional volume?

It is not for the North American market, according to the order guides published.

I am OK not having alcantara on headliner as it’s wear and tear and longevity of the material doesn’t last too long if one is planning to keep the car for long period of time.

Could you not get a local interior shop to just wrap existing pieces in alcantara? While it’s not the cheapest of materials, I can’t see it being 4K to do unless it’s horrendously difficult to install or something

Slightly bummed about RS6 interior after seeing SQ7 and RSQ8.

Thanks for the thread and glad I’m not alone. I’m a bit too ocd when it comes to interiors and sometimes passed on a good drivers car because the options and quality weren’t good enough

My rs6 here in Australia with every single option (night vision, ceramics etc) and AE paint tops at 290k AUD - and yes at that price point the interior is a bit hit and miss, so here’s my 2cents

For the longest time Audi refused to leather wrap their dashboards, my old f80 m3 had a full upper and lower leather bi-color dash and it really lifted the generic 3 series interior

In Aus we can order a pack that gives you alcantara headliner, the upgrade metal grille/rising tweeters b&o (though where’s the cool illumination gone like in my SLS), leather airbag and it does lift the interior - you get in a car without it and it’s a really obvious step down.

Also I’ve noticed cars with the red stitched seats gets black stitching on the dash and door tops which dilutes the look and feel of a leather dash. You’re better off ordering the black leather with grey stitching and you can then easily dye the stitch any colour you want with a fabric marker

I wanted to do an AE interior to further lift interior, but with the AE upholstery shop closed I’m going to do it locally, and will right all the wrongs myself - including a seat colour change, leather wrapping the full door, lower dash and seat adjustment panel

The cognac being only interior colour option is a big let down, the S cars have more variety, my rs3 I could spec with the lunar silver, and that’s the colour I’m going to be retrimming my rs6 - merlin on lunar like my rs3

I’ve followed the Alcantara headliner issue closely-even delayed getting a car till MY ‘22 in hopes of getting it. Turns out North American RS6 headliners are slightly different from the ROW so I don’t expect to get this as a factory option.

    Edit:

Bailed on my rs6 order. My f-pace svr finally arrived and everything from infotainment, seats to trim quality is superior - and crucially I got exactly what I wanted from factory….even an alcantara roof liner

Same thoughts here and in Oz too.

My RS6 is ordered in the cognac. I wanted the light coloured headliner but can only have black with the upgraded stereo. Aargh … not sure why Audi and Mercedes’ want to limit their RS and AMG offerings to black or black.

I’m in my RS4 for lots of work driving (282,000kms in 8 yrs) so like a “lighter coloured” workplace which is why my RS4 is in lunar silver with the light (nearly matching) headliner and I love it. So fully get the desire to do the interior change. The dealer was nearly going to do the colour change for the headliner, but all the random bits, like visors etc, made it seem all too hard.

Keen to hear how you go with your “recolouring”
