    HID Bulb Replacement

Hey All. I am looking to replace my HID bulbs on my 2017 A3. I am split between Morimoto 5500k and Hylux 6000k bulbs. Morimoto D5S bulbs are $350 which is pretty insane so I am leaning more towards the more reasonably priced Hylux bulbs ($199). I want the color to be closer to LEDs and I believe 6000k bulbs are closer to this color anyway. Anyone have any experience with Hylux bulbs, are they reliable and do they have any issues like vibrating or flickering?

Also other than removing the bumper, is there an easier way to change out the bulbs? I heard folding the fender liner back can gain access to the bulb.

Its possible to convert to LEDs...I did on my B6 A4.
However the reflector inside the headlights are designed to pattern the normal bulb. Ya have to find the LED that mimics the OE bulbs lighting. Also ya need LEDs that dont set off the bulb warning...canbus LEDs

I have 6000k HID bulbs in my S3. Much better than the yellowish OE bulbs.

Oh interesting, this further confuses things lol, some places say D5S and this says D3S, are these two bulbs interchangeable?

Not interchangable that I know of...you will have to see what your car has. Probably the D3s.

Ok fair enough, thank you for the information! Did your remove your whole bumper to gain access to the headlights or are there an easier way to do this? I heard we can simply fold back the fender liner a bit to gain access.

2017+ A3's use D5S bulbs. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of good options for aftermarket D5S bulbs. Both the Morimoto and OEM bulbs will run about $350 for a pair. Philips 12410C1 are around $300.

You can change the bulbs by going through the wheel liner, but it will probably be easier to just remove the front bumper and remove the headlights. Your arms will thank you.
