    Driver's Door Not Locking

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys

I've looked on the forum but still unsure as to my solution.

    I have a 2009 A4 B8

Problem - just noticed the driver's door isn't locking with the key fob. All other doors are ok. The red light on driver's door flickers a few time (5) then goes solid red.

I have tried using wd-40 on the door lock, no difference

My workaround is to use the plastic key to manually lock the door and this works ok.

From the above, could a kind soul advise possible cause/fix? I'm happy to strip and replace the relevant part (I've done a window regulator on my old b6).

    Many thanks in advance!

I have the exact same problem on my 2012 A4. I've resorted to just using the key. It's annoying. But I've tried most things on this forum and the only thing I haven't tried is apparently quite an expensive part. Since I don't care that much and just beat the car in winter... I deal with it. But you seem like you have more willpower than I... So let's see if someone can help you

It’s one of the common issues with our cars
    Your lock actuator is bad.

    Thanks guys.

I notice it's intermittently working. But when it doesn't I resort to the plastic key.

I will check those links. Thanks again. Will let you know if I decide to fix it.

Usually the contacts in the little motor in the actuator are dirty or bad. You can dissemble it and clean it, which has worked for some. Worked for me at least. You will need to remove the door card and actuator to repair.

The issue is not in the door handle lock cylinder, it's where the door latch is.

I have brand new left side actuator if interested, bought for my 09 A4 and sold car before I installed.
PM if interested, can send pictures. T

    Update

I managed to source the part of ebay for £32. I used the link above plus a couple of youtube videos to do the replacement.

I ended up also ordering the spline set off amazon for £11 as I didn't have the right bit. They were really tight and I took to my garage for them to loosen them.

It took me the best part of 5 hours from therein to do the job. Probably due to my lack of skill but also one of the tricky parts was after removing the door lock, trying to refit it. There's a tricky step I didn't see in the link or videos, but you need to slide the lock with handle open in order to insert the lock barrell again.

In any case, job done for 32+11+25 (torque wrench). As in most cases, it'll be quicker next time! I guess I've said a few hundred quid!!

This. Needs a door latch. My two rears are bad. Have to manually open and then lock with the little secret key hole. Pretty sad the keyless door locks on my 96 Nissan Pathfinder with 260,000+ miles work perfect on all 5 doors.

The Audi latches are not cheap either. $300+ per door and they're a bitch to install. If you do bite the bullet and replace the door latch DO NOT try the generic aftermarket latches on Amazon/Ebay. You'll only cause yourself more grief.
