Wireless charging taking priority over usb-c connection?

When I have my Samsung phone in the phone box and also connected to the usb-c cable, I would have thought that the phone would be charged via usb-c wired fast charging. But what I am seeing is that the wireless charging pad is actually taking precedence and my phone is actually being charged via wireless charging (according to the charging notification on the phone itself). Obviously I can position my phone slightly off the wireless charging pad to be able to charge it via usb-c fast charging, but just wanted to check to see if others are also experiencing the same thing. Just curious I guess since doesn't seem right, but maybe there is some explanation that somebody has. Thanks.

    Why does it matter?

My phone's fast charging via cable is much faster than it's wireless charging. Not a huge deal like I mentioned, but was curious why it's behaving this way....

I purposely place mine at an angle because I didn't know what would happen if the phone recognized two chargers.

Next time I plug it up I'll put it on the pad and report back what happen.

Which USB port are you using for the USB C connection? Try a USB port that is not in the armrest and see if that makes any difference. The only reason for trying this is we don't know if this behaviour is caused by the phone or the armrest electronics that detects a current draw from the wireless charger and so favours that to the USB port there. But my suspicion is this is a phone behaviour, rather than the car being this clever.

I am using the USB-C port in the armrest/phone box. The other USB (type A one above the cup holders) doesn't provide the phone with fast charging for some reason (and it's not the cable, etc.), but I'll check it out to see if I get basic wired charging or if wireless charging takes over using same phone positioning, etc. You're probably right that it's the phone determining which to use and I've never tried wireless charging of the phone outside of the car while also connected to a wired charger (since that would be strange....). Thanks for your response.

I have an iPhone 12 and it also favors wireless charging when plugged in. I usually set it off to the niche in the side. This is why you see power buttons on most other car brands with wireless charging pads; would be nice to have control over when the pad is active.

I would suggest using something like this to test and see if they power drops when you start using the wireless charging. https://www.amazon.com/Voltage-Multi.../dp/B08L1MLKFM

Please post your results...interested to know as I am thinking of retrofitting my B9 with the USB-C in the center console.

Good idea. While I just used a battery charging monitor app on my phone (instead of the tool you suggested), I found the results to be interesting. Even though the usb-c cable shows "fast charging" on the phone, the battery charging monitor app shows greater charging power is happening with the wireless charging. The usb-c cable charging is very, very slow.... Need to experiment a bit more, but maybe the phone is actually being smart letting the wireless charging override the usb-c cable charging!

I have the same problem, I just put my phone screen down in the cradle when I am plugged into USB.

I have found that using the wireless charger is slow as crap and the phone (iphone SE 2020 version) gets very warm and even overheated one time. When it actually overheated, the phone alerted me that is was overheated and then automatically shut off the phone until it cooled down about 20 minutes later.

I was going to use the usb-c in the center console, also believing this would override the wireless, but apparently this is not the case. I suppose I will now keep my phone in the cup holder and connect to usb-c. or place a piece of rubber over the pad so I can keep my phone on the pad, but keep the pad from knowing my phone is there.

BTW the slow wireless charging and overheating of the phone is usually due to the case you have on the phone to protect it. The case interferes with the connection with the charger, slowing it down and the case holds in the heat. This or apps you have running in the background.
