    Hi All,
Very confusing at least to me about what cars have the crec motor. I have the US 2016 A7 3.0 TFSI with ZF8. Made 2015 May. I pulled off the engine cover and saw a yellow piece of tape with # CRE034447#? Also on a more permanent sticker 06E103925Q followed by 06E145601AT. I read mostly UK models have the engine some select US models? Help? Thanks!!

Look in the trunk for the engine code, if your car is a facelift car it is most likely a CREC motor

The '16-18 MY A6, A7, and Q7 received the CREC engine in the US. The easiest way to instantly tell is by simply looking at the supercharger pulley. If its got 4 bolts on the front, it's a CREC.

I forgot the lucky bastards don't need to bake their pulleys on and off

Great thanks. Found it under by the spare tire or was it in the Bose woofer side panel?? Forget now but says CREC engine NPR,PPD so I'm happy thanks! Which means I also have the simos 16 ECU. Which is all good I hope? Looking to get tuned shortly. Just still trying to figure out the TCU tune part.

Aftermarket support is limited for the CREC. The SIMOS 16 ecu is hard to crack, so at the moment we only have tunes from APR, EPL, and 034. There is a small shop called Boost Dynamic Tuning that offers remote tuning for the CREC as well. And IE and VAST are working on remote solutions for the CREC. So right now things are limited, but hopefully we'll have more options later this year. The thing that sucks is all the tunes that are currently offered do not offer Ethanol maps which is a huge let down because the main benefit of the CREC engine is that it has Dual Injection meaning it should take to Ethanol much better than the Simos 8 cars. As far as TCU tune goes I highly recommend Berk aka BG.SQG.

I've been trying to push the platform and am aiming to be the first in the 10s and have found out a couple things along the way that are different between the Simos 16 and Simos 8 car, like for instance our fuel pumps are different, so are our alternators. So if you start needing to replace certain engine components make sure to check for parts based on VIN. If you plan to push big power I'd take a look at getting your supercharger clutch welded as they are known to fail at higher power levels. I haven't done it yet but I need to shortly, I'm already pushing over 500hp.

You should start a build thread. As a CREC owner myself I'm excited to see your progress.

Didn't think anyone would care to follow, what would you want to see in the thread? Progression of times as I've built the car up step by step? Anything else? Should I wait until I hit the 10s or post the build so far? Currently sitting at 11.3 with stock fuel pump and fueling issues on e30. Was hoping to take my car to the strip this Sunday and see if i could hit a 10 when weather was nice and cool for here in FL with upgraded hpfp, e40, new motor mounts, trans insert, revised tcu file, and a freshly serviced zf8, but the motor mounts were delayed because of the ice storms.

The more detail the better. New mods, dragy times if you have a dragy, logs, challenges you run into, etc. The CREC community is small and I haven't seen anyone with a CREC engine really push the platform to that extent. More and more A6s with CREC engines are coming off warranty so it's a growing community. You were the one that helped me learn about Berk and his TCU tuning abilities. A dedicated build thread would help to advance others on this same platform.

The whole point of the CREC engine was to meet EU6 emissions regulations so the the CREC engine was used in S4 & S5 cars built 2014 to 2016/17 for EU member states. But I think it was also used ROW as well as the few NA models.

Another Crec comment. I've read that these engines don't have carbon build up issues the older models have...True? Plus they have a dual fuel injection system? Seems like the Zf tranny is a great engine made even better with the Crec mods. Also not sure what doubling the Simos does ...16 now instead of 8? Seems like a nice bullet proof package until you mod the hell out of it and blow it up! LOL

The CREC should have little to no carbon buildup since indeed they have both port and direct injection. Direct injection is only used when you give it the beans, so the port injectors are nearly always spraying and keeping the valves clean. The ZF8 tranny to my knowledge is also a 2nd gen version which comes with a few tweaks. The CREC will probably go down in history as one of Audi's greatest engines reliability wise. Though some fundamental design choices will keep this engine from being completely bulletproof, so we can still get failures of the waterpump/thermostat, chain tensioners, pcv, engine mounts, etc. Nothing too horrific though.

I just came across this thread and saw this message and am just laughing. Crec is consuming oil at a prodigious rate. The least reliable v6 engine Audi has ever made

My well maintained 9yr old CREC that doesn't consume a drop of oil:

But you do you. There is a guy on the AW forums I think you would be good friends with.
