    coding/pairing new mechatronic with odis

    Hi guys
After spending 7k on my gearbox rebuild a year ago (my previous thread about the dl501 story...)
The gbox is failing again having neutral to drive shudder and from second to first...on hard brake sometimes even stalling... The garage won't fix it as over a year has passed
I have original vagcom but functions are limited.
How can I recalibrate the gearbox with odis and also if needed.....pair a new mechatronic to it...
    Thanks

Pairing a new one with odis requires a online connection.

I'm not familiar with using ODIS since it's a dealers equipment but with VAGCOM you can do the adaption on the transmission. If you completely replace the TCU I'm not sure if you need it VIN coded to your new VIN. I put a newer transmission (2015) into my 2013 RS5 and with VAGCOM I see the newer transmission shows it's old VIN number and only Audi can program the VIN with ODIS. I'll know within the next week as I pull if off the lift whether the different VIN number makes a difference or if the Immobilizer will stop it from working properly.

Its component protection you will need to worry about.

Does odis with a paid subscription allow independents to code new mechatronics

Not sure but I would think if it was a paid subscription then they should be able to connect with the Audi servers in Germany and get all of the updates too.

Should be able to. And as far as new mechatronics, you have both component protection and immobilizer adaptation tasks to accomplish requiring online server access.

    5 steps towards vehicle diagnostics

All steps must be completed in order. Perform only those steps not already completed.
    Step 1
    Independent Shop Registration
Required to obtain Site ID. Allow one to two weeks processing. (If you are already registered and know your site ID, proceed to step 2.)

    Step 2 *
    Request Security Certificate
Required to obtain your Org ID, Global user ID and ODIS certificate.

    Step 3 *
    Obtain Diagnostic License
required to activate your ODIS installation

    Step 4 *
    Software Installation Instructions & Files
Only one Download is required. One download contains all the Brand information needed.

    Step 5
    Purchase Diagnostic Subscription
A subscription provides one year of unlimited access to all ODIS System diagnostic and reprogramming functions. Note: A separate subscription is required for each brand and is available on their individual web sites.

    * This step must be performed from the laptop that ODIS will be installed on.

Certainly quite a process for individuals, but should be no big deal for shops.

In addition to the above Audi also recommends to do the Adaption process on the DL501. Not sure the ODIS process but in Vagcom you go to Transmission, Basic Settings, and there are five adaptions in a row you need to do starting with "Adaption of Transmission range switch". Once you finish with Vagcom you need to drive the car but it won't necessarily be completed in one drive, sometimes it can take up to a couple of hours of driving and some say you need to drive it in Auto and do some manual shifting so you can spend time in both gear sets in the DSG, Odd gears on one shaft and even on the other. It does Pressure calibration, Distance sensors, clutch valve, clutch engagement point adaption. On my S5 it too about 1.5 hours on some good country back roads. I'm going to do it in the next week or so on my RS5 as it's a 2013 and I recently installed the DSG out of a 2015 RS5, NSD to PXL transmissoin code, which did require ODIS at the dealer and about 20 min of coding.
