    Considering an S6 Avant project

    Hello, I was looking at C7 S6's originally but at this point I think I'd rather pay cash for a car and not have another payment to deal with. I've generally been an Avant guy (I have a B6 A4 Avant atm) so I'm really wanting to pickup a C6/6.5 Avant, and a C6 S6 that's got a beat body or something and swap everything over. I just have a couple questions

    What's the difference between facelift and pre-facelift? Are the headlights the same shape?

    Would I be better off getting a newer Avant? Seems like not a lot changed, and I think the S6 started pre-facelift as well from what I see. Currently there is an 08 A6 3.2 Avant I'm looking at, it has the limited brown/black interior and looks quite good, should be able to pick this one up for 3500-4k I think maybe?

    Would the air suspension on the S6 work on the Avant? I was hoping to swap that stuff over as well.

    Also is there an RS6 style bumper that fits these? I'm guessing the OEM RS6 front and rear bumpers may be wider due to the wide body? I've seen the rear Avant RS6 bumper pretty cheap, but no idea if it'd fit.

    Anyways this is all I have for now, I know this is a big project but I'm not worried about that too much. I was planning to basically turn my B6 Avant into an S4 Avant but decided I wanted something more unique, and that V10 for the kind of prices they are at now is just oh so tempting and puts me right in the power range I was looking for anyways. I know this swap has been done a couple times, the one guy on youtube replaced the entire trans tunnel which seemed extreme, the other guy on youtube I talked to said they just hammered the tunnel out a bit and the S6 trans went in fine, oh and they had to weld a bracket on for the trans or something.

    I believe the fender sheetmetal is different on the RS, S, and A models. If I were going to the effort of swapping powertrain I'd want that fatter stance as well. Not sure if the drivetrain swap or the body panel swap scares me more :)

    Regarding C6 (2004-2008) vs. C6.5 (2009-2011) - sheetmetal is nearly identical, particularly on the Avant (I think all of them had the nice LED tails)... The LED headlights started in 2009. S6 and RS6 are differentiated with a unique LED strip on the front bumper as well.

    There is a user, jolio1994 that's currently stuffing the 5.2 v10 into a URS6 Avant. If you want to learn more about the motor and drivetrain, probably a good place to start: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...URS6-Avant-5-2

    Yeah I don't want to go the full RS6 body. Just wanted the RS6 style bumpers lol. Maybe the RS6 wide body could come later if I could find donor pieces for not TOO crazy of money. Shipping would be the hard part I'd think. We have other cars but I don't want to turn this into a year long project lol.

    Correct, my mistake. not as familiar with the older models. That thing is sweet though

    If I remember correctly, a few people have tried projects to do this. Some pretty crucial parts of the frame on the A6 vs S6 are different, meaning you'd have to swap a lot of frame components in front of the firewall out from the S6 to the A6

    No, you just have to either clearance the trans tunnel, or swap it out with the S6 one. Obviously just pounding it out to clearance the trans is the smart thing to do. I'm still not sure, think I'm going to get a new truck for now and think on it some more. Been looking at B9 S5's too lol.

    Check out youtube - there is a place called quattro barn in KC I believe who has started this - think the transmission tunnel and part's not lining up were a challenge. don't recall if they were ever able to finish the project and why - whether it was $$ or technical/mechanical roadblocks.

    C4 = UrS platform. Source: I've had 4 of them.

    Also, I'd go C6 avant. Otherwise if you get a C6.5, you might as well just turn the wick up on the 3.0T that's already in there.

    lets be real, you will never do it, you are lacking basic knowledge even of audi models, not to say anything more complicated.

    video posted above shows how much work needs to go into this, and unless you own your own body shop, it is impossible to do alone.

    pretty much whole car needs to be cut apart.

    Im not even gonna comment on "just pounding it out to clearance the trans is the smart thing to do"
