Angry New RS7 Rear Differential Replacement (Parts on National Backorder)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Picked up my new RS7 a little over 3 months ago and drover about 2,000 miles. Noticed a leak from the rear portion of the vehicle, took it to the shop. They came back and told me its from the rear differential and it needs a replacement but there is a national backorder for the parts. Estimated time to return my vehicle is 1-2 months...

Anyone else with the same problem??

The housing needs to be replaced or the diff itself? Did they tell you how low the fluid was? Are they letting you drive it?

Sorry to hear that! What a headache...

They didn't give me any specifics besides that they need to replace the rear differential. Unfortunately, they are keeping the car for the next month or two. They put me on a waiting list for a car loaner.

I noticed a weird puddle in my garage the other day that would have been under the differential. Haven't noticed any other fluid since. Did you car make any weird sounds or have any other issues besides the leak?

My RS7, 4k miles is currently with Audi for a leak from the front diff. Waiting for an update. I have had a few issues from new July 2020 (UK) 1. Sun blind (pano roof) jam. 2. Rear windscreen replaced as the bonding, passenger side bottom corner had lifted. 3. Front diff leak.

You bought an RS7 and they have you on a WAITING list for a loaner? They need to step up their game, that's insane.

Hopefully Audi has their stuff together and gets you that part, I have a customer who is going on 5 months without his 2020 Camaro because Chevy can not be bothered to send out a wiring harness for the backup camera. Won't even give a date.......just says when they get to it.

At first I noticed the leak couple weeks ago in my garage, cleaned up and kept an eye to see if it will happen again. Drove every other day, no leaks. Two days ago, it happened again. Point being if it leaked even once, you probably have some problem. The car drives perfectly fine, no weird sounds.

Woow, 5 months?? I don’t know which state he is at but thats usually a lemon. Paying up while you drive a loaner for 5 months! He has some patience!

It's cute that you think Chevy gives out loaners............ I have had several GMs in my youth and there are dozens of reasons why never again even though my mother's side of the family would disown me if they knew I drove German.

Also this was damage from a collision (I work in a body shop) so can't lemon it but no excuse for that abysmal customer service. It was a current model year production, take one from the factory and service your customer.

Lemon law in California is 30 days out of service. You can leverage that to get either get paid for non use or whatever else you would like to get figured out. As an example BMW offered me $6K to keep an X5 lease a few years ago after the motor grenaded.

Just an update. I had the same issue as well. I also had an exhaust valve that was making a very loud grinding noise. Audi Ordered differential and whole new exhaust, let me take the car. Parts only took 2 weeks to get in, and all is good now, new exhaust and new diff that doesn't leak.

So I took my RS7 in to do an update on my navigation and MMi and they found fluid leaking from rear differential... They took pics and sent it to Audi and I am sure I will have to get my rear differential replaced now.

So apparently Audi is aware of the problem and during assembly some cars differentials got overtightened which is causing the leaks. I was pumped they let me take the car after they ordered the diff.

Mother eff, I've only got 800 miles on mine so far but I've been watching for any fluid leaks and haven't seen any so bad to be dripping yet, doesn't mean the seal isn't already leaking though. Will have them take a look when I take it in next, my driver side rear brakes are squealing after they get hot at low speed, only that side, only after they warm up, caliper pins might need lube, not sure.

Audi just called me .. my diff has a crack. they said they have never seen it that bad and I am luckily I came in so quickly. That would have run out of oil quickly. the picture above was after one night standing there ... so that actually really happened on Tuesday. I came home from a 900mile roadtrip over the weekend, there was no problem and no oil after 2 nights standing on my spot.
They said will take about 2 weeks, diff seem to be on stock in the US.

Totally sucks! Paranoid about this now, I keep checking under the car every time I go out, hah, there has to be a TSB coming w/ this many occurrences.

Is this happening on the RS6's at all? I saw a TSB last week when I was at the dealer regarding the drive shaft.

Dont be worried too much. just check from time to time your parking spot for oil drips and you will be fine. that has to be some kind of material issues, I dont think you could kill the diff in 2400 miles even if you want to under normal cirtcumstances.

Funny enough my Audi dealer said they dont know anything about it from Audi that this is a known issue etc. but to be honest they seemed pretty quickly know whats going on ;-) so I am sure that is not just a one of a kind.

Still hoping mine doesn't need to be replaced, no leaks yet! Funny it's mentioned here though, my steering wheel has been slightly off-center (pointing slightly to the right) and the car pulls very slightly to the right since I took delivery, it's going in for that next week.

I think that was related to my new alignment. I did drop it 25mm with the factory scan tool and made a new alginment afterwards. When they put everything back together they put it back to factory height (dont really blame them) and so the alignment was off.
