Lightbulb Front Bumper Tow Hook License Plate Mounts

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have the unfortunate privilege of living in a state (NJ ) where front plates are required and where 5-0 actually enforce this pretty heavily. I asked the dealer to not install the front mount on my '21 SQ5 (Black Optic, Daytona Gray) as the temporary plate in the rear has bought me some time to look for some alternative solutions. This is mostly for you CA, NY, NJ, CT guys. Are most of you just saying f' it and not running a front plate? Putting it in the front windshield? Getting creative somehow? Any suggestions/tips/general help would be much appreciated!

Checked ECS and they do sell one, but I think Neuspeed or some other DTM tuner sells a front tow hook bumper license plate kit but its priced at almost $200! Checked Amazon and I'm not seeing anything many for the Q5's, a few for the B8 chassis but nothing at all for the B9 - which I'm thinking has the tow hook cover in the same spot as the 2021 B9.5 if I'm not mistaken, yes? Passenger side, towards the side intake cover, level and right next to the circular radar/camera unit.

If ya'll can post how you have your front bumper setups for those running front and rear plates and are not using the default mounting location, would very much appreciate the help. Thanks ya'll.

The tow hook on the Q and SQ is behind the passenger side lower bumper grill. Some people have used tow hook mounts but it involves drilling a hole in the grill.

I went with sly brackets for mine SQ. It’s a great no drill option and can work on pretty much any vehicle.

I don’t understand the point of this? It looks worse then the factory plate mount which doesn’t require any drilling.

For the past five years in NYC I haven’t run a legal front plate. Instead I ran a Euro plate with my NY tag number, and spec’d in NY colors (I still had my old school blue and white plates) - almost looks legit if you don’t know better. Cops often gave it a double take but I never got a ticket for it. I say if you don’t like running a plate don’t run it and take the risk. YOLO.

I drive 99.9% of my time with no front plate, but if I’m going somewhere where I know the cops will give me a hard time about it I just slap it on to avoid any issues. Also I’m moving in a few months to a province that does not require front plates so I ordered it without the plate mount

Goes to show how incompetent blue and white patrol can be here sometimes in NYC (no offense to those on here that serve our great city) but come on... a euro plate is not only less than half as tall but nearly double the width. But I guess how if they're just driving by and all they see is your rear tags (legit I'm assuming) at that point how you could get away with this. Lol.

Any of ya'll get ticketed for having a front plate in the window? Is that technically legal? Or is there something in the bylaws that says it has to be mounted yadda yadda high and yadda yadda visible blah blah.
