    3.0 IE tune vs APR

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What do you guys think about IE vs APR for a tune on a a6 , I know APR have now lowered their prices making their tunes very tempting but I’ve also noticed they advertise higher horsepower numbers than IE but far lower torque figures . Now I can imagine in a car as big and heavy as the A6 torque is a big deal but is it worth the extra few hundred dollars plus $130 for the power link . Also I should mention IE has lower horsepower figures .

HP claims are worthless as there are too many variables from dyno to dyno.

034 and IE are the two best tunes period. The test against time is the only true way to measure absolute performance and those two are the fastest.

With all that said APR is fine and unless pushing past stage 1 on 93 octane the difference is negligible. If you are going to go full stage 2 especially with E40 APR shouldn't be considered over the aforementioned companies.

I don't have a 3.0 but I do have APR. I wish APR gave us the option to tune at home like IE does. I do like my APR tune and never had any other brand so I can't give you a comparison of the two. From what I gathered from these posts are, they both are good tunes but IE has the up bc of the at home tuning option.

Probably not what your looking for but hope it helps a little.

I was waiting out IE’s crec (2016+) tunes last year but they never came, and to my knowledge are still not released. I went with APR instead and can say that I have zero regrets. 3.56 second 0-60 on single pulley 93 octane tune, not looking to break any records as this is my daily driver. Additionally apr seems the have the reputation as a “safe” tune across many vag platforms, to the extent that a safe tune is possible of course.

For what it’s worth apr’s crec tunes show 404lb-ft and 477 HP for single pulley 93 octane whereas IE lists 423lb-ft and 435 HP for their tune. APR’s stock torque reading also shows 14ft-lbs less than IE’s (325 vs 339) so if you believe the advertised numbers that should be taken into account as a correction.

At the end of the day there are so many variables with dyno results that the numbers are just marketing anyways. The numbers are more than likely within a margin of error that may or may not be measurable in the real world.

p3u makes a good point (no surprise) about ethanol. Apr has 100 and 104 octane tunes but nothing for ethanol. If you’re looking to run an ethanol blend there are better options for sure, especially if you have a 2015 or older.

running stage one from APR and couldn't be happier. I do have to say this though i did get a Melen TCU tune as APR shows it's numbers up the 7,400rpm redline and even though APR raises your redline there is no way you can get there without a TCU tune so you'll be leaving about 20hp on the table from what they are saying your gains will be and going to say same with any other tunes that raise redline and show you there HP numbers at an elevated redline

I am on APR, single pulley stage 2.

I have been considering going dual pulley. Ethanol mixes seem like a hassle, so I plan to stay on 93.

Otherwise it has been flawless. The car is a rocket.

I'm dual pulley (AWE upper/JHM 187 lower) and have been running GIAC dual pulley for about a year. This past week, I flashed JHMs Stg2 file and TCU file... WAY better than GIAC! Hands down. The top end just keeps pulling, where GIAC was "meh" on the top end. I actually broke all 4 tires loose today.

I'm looking forward to their Stg3 file, when it's ready.
