2021 SQ5 wheel size and lug nut size

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just picked up my MY2021 SQ5. Will my winter tires from my MY2018 SQ5 fit? Also, I can't find in the owner's manual what size lug nut size is on the wheels.

I am borrowing a torque wrench from a friend and want to know what size socket to use. I will be doing a tire swap myself for the first time.

Also, the delivery specialist told me to just change the wheels like normal and don't change the setting in the infotainment to Air suspension - wheel change setting....he said that is for the mechanics. But the owner's manual says to change the setting to Air Suspension wheel change if vehicle has air suspension, which mine does.

    thanks!

Yes the wheels from your 2018 will fit exactly the same on the 2021.

Socket size you’ll want is 17mm

I would 100% put it into wheel change mode any time you jack up the car. Don’t listen to that sales guy lol

Thank you....but it wasn't the sales guy. It was the delivery specialist.

Not that you needed a second opinion, but everything that Chris.green said is correct.

The only things I’d add is get a good floor jack as the factory one should be used for emergencies only (and even that’s iffy). Also absolutely positively use jack stands for extra safety. Lastly, use a bit of anti seize on the hubs where you mount the wheels as it’ll be much easier to swap them out in the spring.

Thanks for the reply. Second opinions are always welcome. I ended up changing the tires without too much trouble. I do have a good jack, but did not use jack stands. Also didn't use anti-seize. I will look into that for next time.

About to do the winter wheel swap for the first time. Did you just lift the car by the pinch welds? I will pick up a trolley jack at Harbor Freight tomorrow. Is a torque wrench essential as well?

    Thanks!

You can't torque the lug bolts remotely correctly without a torque wrench. If you're the "I call AAA if the wheels have to come off" type, cool. Otherwise, you own a car, you own a torque wrench. Q5 spec is 140 Nm, or 103 ft-lbs.

    https://www.harborfreight.com/hand-t...-wrenches.html

If nothing else, that $22 1/2" is at least something.

But that $50 digital adapter is interesting (I have one of those too, but not that brand). Let's you use your normal breaker bar for torque value purposes. I have it as a double-check on my torque wrench accuracy. Problem is, like my digital calipers, it uses a battery. But unlike my digital calipers, the battery is still good after several years.

And that $60 Quinn lug wrench looks very interesting for a toss it in the back and leave it there. Too bad it doesn't have a 90 (120 Nm) point for the cars.

    (2) jacks on one side make the seasonal tire changes quicker easier and safer. Car stays lower to the ground. Reduces stress on a single jack or car.
    Always use your parking brake.
Re-torque wheel bolts after a few days driving for full piece of mind.
Carry a breaker bar with a 17mm deep socket especially because almost all Winter wheels are not compatible with the OEM lug wrench. Won’t reach. Please don’t wonder too hard why I know this.

2 jacks is completely unnecessary for wheel changes. And it certainly isn’t faster than a single jack.

The 1/2 in. Drive Preset Lug Nut Torque Wrench is cool, the 100 ft lbs setting is ok for SQ5/Q5 lug bolts, definitely better than nothing for person just looking to do their own tire rotations or winter/summer change overs.

Not necessary is very true, (1) jack will do the job. Sounds like someone that never actually tried it with (2) jacks. Please try with (2) jacks (on the same side) and report back. I would not have posted if it wasn't way better. Learned from watching a reputable tire shop (folks that actually do this for a living), tried it at home the next seasonal change and sure enough way better (safer and faster). And as always, Your car do it any way you want.

No, I’m not going to go buy a second floor jack that I don’t need just to humor you.

Winter wheels on, no issues. Bought a low profile Husky 3 ton lift at Home Depot and a torque wrench. Lifted by the pinch weld using a slotted rubber puck from Amazon, one wheel/corner at a time.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Still can’t figure how I would lift and then put a jack stand since everything is covered in plastic under the car.

Yeah, the car is not designed for home ownership work. The four official lift points are only large enough for a lift pad. That's why there's things such as https://jackpointjackstands.com/ But these things are the way to go: https://www.quickjack.com/car-lifts/5000tlx/ Of course, with enough money, any solution exists: https://www.redlinestands.com/catalo...y-trucks-p-730

You aren’t helping anyone. No one needs 2 floor jacks for seasonal wheel changes.
