    7-spd DSG S-tronic gearbox, how much power can they handle?

    Hi all,

    This is just food for thought at the moment. I cant seem to find alot of info on, as there does not seem to have alot of Custom tuned, Larger turbo A4 B8.5.. and i think the transmissions in the USDM are a bit different.

    My vehicle is equipped with the 7-Spd S-Tronic DSG gearbox for 2.0T, which comes standard with the Quattros where I am from.
    Im not 100% sure of the model code of this gearbox, anyone have any ideas for easy ways of how i can find that? (I currently dont have the vehicle with me to check that sticker in the Trunk/spare tire.

    Ive heard that these gearboxes may be the same/similar to the S4s... but i kinda doubting that, as its certain the S4 utilises different/shorter gearing, which is more acceleration/performance focused than longer gears for fuel efficiency of the A4.

    Since im going through a forged re-build, and if i decide to eventually ditch the K04 and go Larger... fueling and transmission would be the two next things for me to do some study on.

    There are different models of dsg

    Dq500, dq250 etc

    I would imagine the 2.0T got something similar the new dq250 you see in a3/s3/mk7 golf r

    yes, these are the same transmissions as in USDM S4, ROW a4/a5/a6/a7, similar to transmissions in the S7/S7, obviously with appropriate gearing. I personally not a fan of DL501 as the reliability, longevity and serviceability especially for gen1 leaves much to be desired, but these can handle a lot of torque, however you will need to tune it to lift the factory 500Nm limit, otherwise it will ask ECU to reduce the torque. I imagine if these come standard on all Quattros where you are from, there should be a lot of people who can repair and flash these transmissions.

    The DL501-7Q is what all the B8 Audis use.

    D = dual clutch
    L = longitudinal mounting
    500 = torque handling in Nm
    1 = who knows, a revision number?
    -
    7 = number of gears
    Q = quattro with integrated front diff

    DQ... would be transverse applications.

    Ah makes sense

    Thanks for the break down Smac!

    Very interesting, I haven't got the log book with me at the moment either, as i think there is also the same identical trunk VIN sticker on one of the pages.
    Ill report back once i do.

    reliability as in Mechatronics issues?

    well, im from Down-Under, and the Quattro comes standard with DSG. But, nah we are pretty hopeless. Alot of the tuning, parts etc... we heavily rely on the US and Europe predominantly.

    What actually happens if the 500nm torque is not lifted, and say a custom Engine tuner tunes it to exceed that figure?

    The TCU has been tuned with REVO in the past... apparently that increases the clamping pressure, but not certain of the torque restrictor?

    If it’s been tuned by REVO at some point then 500nm limit is probably lifted. Stock software will just ask the engine to reduce the torque if you go past 500nm, that’s all, it won’t blow up). Ideally, it would be good to have it retuned to match the shift points to your engine tune, but might be okay in manual mode.
