    Spark Plug Replacement

It's time to replace my spark plugs and I haven't been able to find a lot of info for the B9's. I'm currently running APR stage 1. Is the general consensus to run OEM plugs (I haven't found anything else yet).

You have a 2018 model? I thought first plug change should be done at 60K miles.?

I see ECS Tuning is selling the APR coils for our car. But nothing for plugs. That’s odd. There should be other brands available other than factory version.

I haven’t even bothered to look but was wondering how hard is it to get to our plugs.

Popping the engine cover off, all the coil packs are right there. Doesn’t look difficult at all.

It’s a royal pain in the ass. The last gen was simple. There’s so much in the way. This is a job I prefer to just pay someone to do on this car

Did my plugs today. I’m not sure how the last gen was set. The B9 isn’t terrible. I used a write up from the other forums. The biggest thing was having the proper spark plug socket. Apparently a normal thin walled socket doesn’t fit.

I recently swapped to Brisk Silver Racing ER12YS Spark Plugs and I’m happy with them. I’m also on APR Stage 1. Not a tremendous difference, but did actually notice better mpg off of them at highway speed.

Not too bad of a job, I went with upgraded 034Motorsport coils but stayed with OEM spark plugs (from RockAuto). 034 has a nice instruction write-up on this job on their website. I wound up taking the PCV valve hose off to access the driver’s side spark plug bank really made accessing the coil/plugs easier.

After removing and installing the spark plugs dozens of time to try and track down my misfires, I learned to do it without removing the PCV (which is a pain). You only really need to remove the intake on the passenger side, and unplug the ECU on the driver side to give you more room. From that point, you can access what you need to. It's so much easier and quicker this way.

    Spark Plug Replacement

I'm coming up on my 40k service and will be replacing spark plugs per the recommended maintenance schedule. A few questions from a novice:

    1. Are there any benefits to "upgrading" to Brisk Racing 2MOR10S Silver Spark Plugs on a Stage 1 Tune, or is this only advisable on Stage 2+? 034 mentions "these plugs are one step colder versus oem - one step colder is typically recommended for Stage 2 tunes or higher" but also list that they are applicable for Stage 1 in the proceeding sentence. Is there any actual benefit, or do they just want to sell me some aftermarket plugs?

    2. What Plug Gap is advised? I've found three different answers.

    3. Should I be replacing plugs sooner than the recommended 40k intervals since the car is tuned?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Do what they recommend. I have a different tune and usually do plugs about every 20k, but that's just me. Plugs are cheap and easy to access (2.0T).
