    Best Remote Start solutions?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone have any suggestions on remote starts that you guys currently use? Preferably with smart phone activation, and to be used for up to 1 mile away or so? Gonna plan to install one in my SQ5 and wifes future ALLROAD for the summer coming up.

I know there's been a lot of options and system through the years, looking to hear most up to date , user friendly systems!

    Thanks.

This one has been flawless for me... Plug & play self install in rear left trunk compartment if you're electronically inclined & adapt at that sort of stuff. Utilizes the Fortin module in the link above.

Then I use this CL6 iPhone app to remote start from anywhere in world as long as you have cellular, wifi and Bluetooth. Have started my SQ5 in Vancouver Canada from Los Angeles & Australia and watched it on security cameras just to get the fluids circulating for a few minutes. Lol.

You can also triple click the lock button on your fob to start the car as well but I always use the phone app.

Only downside is you have to sacrifice a key fob with (no battery so no risk for car theft) installed to go inside the module but that's not a big deal for me as I have 4 key fobs. Also just means you have a spare hidden in car at all times. On the off chance you lose or damage your main keyfob you just take the spare out of the module throw a battery stash in glove box back in it and away you go.

    Here's the app interface...

And here's what the spare keyfob module looks like. The Fortin module is a separate unit that the key module links into with the supplied wiring harness...
    B8F86C5E-737B-4014-9652-A2C276710822.jpg

My only tip is to not bury either module deep in the insulation. The higher they are mounted in the side cavity while still allowing the wiring harness a little slack to minimize cable strain the better. I just used sticky back Velcro to keep everything secured against body panels to prevent unwanted rattling and Velcro loops so wiring harnesses are routed tidy and not flopping all over the place. Easy peasy. Once installed you just forget it. First year of phone app service is free with purchase of the above kit. Then you renew once a year or at $33 dollars a year for a 3-year bundle which is more than fair to me...

Lastly heat settings are typically what you last left the car at when you kill it with app. e.g. Windshield, rear windshield defrost, heated seats, etc. Steering wheel heat should be left on when you kill ignition and side mirror knob should be left on heat icon if you want to activate with the remote start. Obviously if you last setting is Max A/C then you gonna enter a car with a warm engine but a icebox interior. Haha.

Hope that helps "defrost" things for you.

I followed this write-up last month. All components were sourced from various well-established sellers on ebay for under $400 total. You can save $75-100 by skipping the Drone Mobile module and triple-clicking the OEM remote lock button to start the vehicle.

iDatalink/iDatastart are the same company which are owned by DEI. DEI also copies all firmware and designs from Fortin so they are always a couple steps behind them

My Fortin was also under $200, you will need a programer which is about $25. I also like programing my remote start to start by Lock Unlock Lock. I have noticed Audi wait half a second or so between Lock Lock Lock. If you time it wrong you have to do it over again. With Lock Unlock Lock you don't have to time it.

Nice link to that write up. Curious how much control do you have with the do you have with the iDatalink/iDatastart system via the Drone X1Max mobile app system? Can you set the climate control, heated seats, heated steering wheel settings via the phone? Can you fold mirrors, open hatch, etc... With the ASCL6 it is limited to just the Remote start, Door Unlock/Lock, Ambient temp sensing, Battery levels and GPS Signal strength...

Also how do you do this programming for Lock Unlock Lock on the Fortin system? I've noticed same issue with the Lock Lock Lock which was annoying but since I never use the keyfob (mainly because the range on Audi's new style keyfob is absolutely horrible even with Extended Range activated via OBD11) for remote starting.

When you plug the remote start in to download the firmware you can pick which one you want. Default is Lock Lock Lock but you have the option to select Lock Unlock Lock.

You mean with the Fortin Mobile Link? I think I've used it once when the system was intially installed to make sure firmware was the latest version so honest can't remember what was configurable. Haven't seen any relevant firmware updates so haven't bothered to update again.

Correct, in the config section it list how you want to activate the remote start.

But I use the other flasher because I am cheap, just ask Mops
