    Question for the TT folks...

A question for the TT masses. I've had my eye on the mk2 tt for a while and in the spring I'm going to start looking for one.

My question is...why aren't they more popular?

    Here's how I see it...
    Looks great
    2.0t
    Quattro
    Dsg

What am I missing? Golf r drivetrain in a sexy package...that takes well to modifications...that costs way less used than a golf r?

I can see dsg and quattro being alot of fun next winter.

They aren't popular because they're small and niche. As far as Audi's go, they aren't as tech loaded or as comfortable. They aren't as practical as most either. So it just pushes off a lot of people.

That being said, they're all fantastic cars. If you can, spring the extra for a TTS or TTRS if you've got a LOT extra. :)

    Question for the TT folks...

What he said. There were only like 15k mk2’s sold in North America, so it’s always fun to see them on the road. The Golf R is the easy choice for those who need 4 doors and more room, but I’ve been able to fit a surprising amount of stuff with the seats folded down.

The price difference between the TT and TTS is minimal for what you get, so I’d go with the S all day. They are much easier to get extra power out of and are tons of fun.

Agree with all prior posts. I just got my '10 TTS in December. I looked at virtually every used Audi S/RS plus R and GTI in my budget over a few months before coming across the TTS. I had almost overlooked the Mk2 TT/TTS/TTRS entirely.

There are not a lot of them out on the market, which was the other factor.

I came to realize that not only are Mk2s great looking cars, but that they are equally easy to live with if you don't need a back seat.
Since I purchased mine to be a daily driver, I can attest that it's actually quite practical. It can be a 2-door hatchback when you want it too. It also makes good MPG for a 4-banger engine putting out V-8 level TQ/HP numbers (APR Stage II).

The engine seems to take well to mods and; having the K04 versus the K03 in the TT makes a significant difference. Its also an easy engine to work on if you like spining your own wrenches. The more you DIY stuff on the TTS, the more you realize that nothing ever seems meant for the vehicle, but all for the Golf R.

As another post mentions tech in the vehicle. Not a lot of it, especially when you stare at the ancient RNSE system. It is a true driver's car. Not much for driver assist technology here...no thank you.

Biggest "hang up" for me at the outset was the lack of a manual transmissions. With that being said, DSG has been impressive, especially with the APR TCU tune to go with my ECU mod. Despite this, I would be lying if I said that I don't miss a manual shifter.

Yes, limited production so by todays standards they are very rare. Not to rip on the Golf R, which is a cool car, the TTS is far superior. Handling, performance, build etc. The Golf on the freeway or highway at high speed is not great, because of the poor aerodynamics.

The TT/TTS/RS has Aluminum Space Frame construction, more rigid, better balance. It does share "platform" components with the VW, but it's a really different car and is incredible value. I've had two TTS, picked up a low mile Sprint blue 2009 TTS for an amazing deal. Almost forgot how fast they are. Plus, I think the MK2 has experienced most of its depreciation already.

I'll play the 10th man (devils advocate) I am going to tell you why you Don't want to buy the TT/TTS/TTRS

    1. It's unique, henceforth not alot of the same cars on the road so you'll always draw attention to yourself. Who craves attention? Ego much.

    2. It's a superior handling car, albeit a super modified FWD- VW with a pedigree racecar driver has put down a better time in the ring, but really, how often would you expect to come across a racecar driver in a VDUB?

    3. It's a fuel economic version of Quattro, meaning it's primarily FWD and sends upto 50% torque and power to the rear wheels as needed in microseconds in the name of fuel efficiency. Do you really care about saving and extra $25 in gas a week?

    4. The aerodynamic design is comparable to the other high end Coupe on the market with more luggage space, but you want a sports car as a daily driver, why would you care about luggage space?

    5. Easy tunability...... really you want to drive a car with better performance than the Porsche Boxster and the Porsche Cayman for less money.......is ego really a thing?

    6. The Audi TT MK2 CETA engine doesn't have a KO3 Turbo it has an IHI that's bigger than a KO3 making 11-15 more HP than its VW KO3 equipped counterpart at the same boost. I can't recall but there was a super detailed long thread by a Russian running enthusiast. Good read. But yeah who cares if the base has a better fuel regulator then the TTS, or a lighter more efficient engine....pfft it's still a base model that cost under $70 grand CAD when new.

    7. The TTRS was all the phenomenon in Japan when the drift king put it up against other JDM & Euro counterparts around the track and won repeatedly. Why would you want a car that legendary racecar drivers went crazy over just 9 years ago?

    8. It's a small Coupe, yeah so is the JDM NSX, FD3, R32/33/34, MIATA, S2000 so why would you want a Small Coupe, it's not like you might have to park in tight spaces every once in a while. Are you low key OKAY telling the world you aren't compensating for something else?

    9. It's an engine that's stock 200+ and has been taken to almost a 1000 HP. Why would you want a platform that's capable of running 8 second quarter miles? Speed should not matter.

    10. It's a sexy car, girls like it, they like the lines, and they like the fact that its owner is a 240lb tattooed badass (sorry that's just me) but seriously any guy that says it's a girl's car has problems with their own sexual security. If the TT was a girl's car than the Porsche which is equally if not sexier has to be a playmates car. Just saying.

    There's 10 reasons why you shouldn't buy a TT/TTS/TTRS.

Hope that helps you not buy an Audi TT/TTS/TTRS.
