vibration when turning at low speed Normal?

    Hi all,

Im new to the s4, and ive been digging through threads about pcv, waterpump, control arm and other common issues. Ive seen the phrase quattro rumble used here and there.

My S4 has this vibration (its the best term i can come up with) When I make sharp turns at low speed. It reminds me somewhat of my old tahoe with a limit slip rear diff. Is this normal?

Ive also noticed a sound that i cant quite describ, kind of like a low hum distinct from the tires and engine noise when at speed.

Last part sounds like tires to me, maybe wheel bearing but that's a hard one without actually hearing it.

I don't notice much noise from my SQ5, but i tend to avoid going full lock, just back off a few degrees and see if it stops. How slow are we talking? Like backing out of a driveway? Or driving through a neighborhood?

Pretty sure its not a wheel bearing, ive tried loading sides of the car and nothing changes in the noise. As for speed were talking backing out or pulling into a parking space. like sub 5 mph.

If I go full lock or close to it while making a sharp turn either direction at low speed I hear and feel it, just a little bit of binding at the tires, amplified by Quattro. I've never thought anything of it, that's just what happens when everything wants to turn the same speed and it can't.

    Is this your first Audi?

    It's Quattro

You're not going to have the tight turning radius as a FWD/RWD car.

I had a 2012 volvo with a haldex system, but i suppose that wouldnt have the same power shunt that the torsion system does.

I have this “vibration” on my B8.5 S4,
But I didn’t have it on my B7 A4 or my mki TT (I know it’s a haldex so it doesn’t count...)
I kept reading and hearing it was normal so I ignore it and try not to do sharp turns.

Normal on B8/B8.5. Pay it no mind and if it bothers you (like it does me occasionally) take a wider turn if possible. Most of the time it happens in parking lots or pulling out of my driveway.

Yes our quattro systems will rumble at low speed sharp lock turns. My b6 does it just the same and so does my Subaru in its own quirky way.

On my S4 there is a binding feeling when first taking off from reverse to drive and that's something common too. I recall some journalists writing about it years ago on many new Audi variants.

^This. OP should search "quattro crawl" to see if that is what is occuring. I have two Audis. It's worse in my B8.5.
