Can the MMI Firmware be updated?

I am curious if it's possible to download and update new firmware for the MMI?

My Apple Connect is glitchy and doesn't work all the time when I connect my Iphone via the USB cable. I figure the firmware could probably be updated via an SD card, but knowing Audi I am sure they made it more difficult than it should be.

No, the dealer is the only one that can provide it that I am aware of.

Thanks Clod. That's what I thought. Typical VW

    PaperLion,
The cable is a new Apple USB/Lightning Cable. I can't image anything aftermarket is higher quality?
I just bought a new phone. My 6S+ was getting tired anyways. Hopefully I have better luck with the new 12Pro :)

Also - know that there might be some negatives to updating the MMI software. For example, if you still have your 2018...updating the MMI will remove your ability to lower the middle screen.

Interesting... I just had the dealer update my MMI yesterday (2018 A3). I had software version 1196, and they updated it for free to 1363 so that the Google Earth-type maps would work again. I had an early 2018 model, so I had been able to retract my screen. I guess I need to check if that still works.

This is good to know since google maps no longer works for me.

Check your current software version. 2018 A3 models came with two different software versions. If you have version 1196, then your car can be updated, but I think the other version can't be. Although it may be different for the RS3.

You should be good. I had it wrong - there are five possible software versions for 2017-2018 A3's. 906, 1110, and 1196 can be updated, and 694 and 1368 can't.

Not being able to lower the screen would be a deal breaker for me...
Being able to lower the screen was a major factor in purchasing my A3 over a BMW. It sounds stupid, but I really prefer a more spartan interior.

How about for a 2015 S3? What would be the benefits of upgrading?

I’ve had MMI updated on multiple cars due to simple glitches. As long as the dealer has a reason to update it, they should do so. My S5 had a glitch where CarPlay wouldn’t come back up after the backup cam popped up. Fixed in 10 minutes. My first S3 wouldn’t show track metadata on the virtual cockpit. Also a quick update fixed this.

Screen can still be lowered. MMI overall seems more snappy and less laggy. Got the subwoofer adjustment in audio too. Hoping this solves the asterisk steering button no response issue and the CarPlay issue where if I left the phone in the car for a short trip into a store the audio wouldn't resume when the car started back up.

I wanted to bring this thread back to life because I also have access to the 1363 update file.

I was worried about the screen not lowering as well.

Are there any disadvantages to updating?

Also is there a way for me to gain access to a maps/navigation database?

    My current version is:

    0694 can not be updated?

    Is there any reason why?

Is the hardware too out of date? This is the first time I am hearing of this.

Is there also a navigation/maps database I can gain access to? This will not just be a take situation. I am willing to provide to the community as I already have for years regarding schematics and diagrams I have gotten from other users and employees of VAG...

Thanks alot to everyone here helping out!

    Hey Sima!

Can you verify that firmware updating for the 0694 version is not possible?

I have not attempted it yet but in theory if it is truly impossible the car should not recognize the firmware files, correct?
