    Price to change grill?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys. I have been thinking of updating the grill on my C7 S6. I don't know that I have the time to tackle it myself between my business and time I dedicate to watching my son. It's been difficult during the pandemic. If I want to take it somewhere to pay to have it changed, anyone have an idea what a reasonable cost I should expect to pay? TIA

I’d say 2-3 hours of labor at the worst. Without knowing labor rates in your area it’s hard to say. Might want to talk with a body shop to see what they will charge. They have already likely done it many times already.

It will depend, at least in my opinion, on what grille you provide. An eBay knock-off might require modification, a stock unit would be straightforward.

As long as it is OEM or from a well known company should be a pretty easy install. Like stated before, maybe an 1hr-2hr and then depends on their hr shop rate. I know around here I have places that charge anywhere from $75 /hr-$175/hr. I would call around and get some quotes so you can at least have a ball park idea.

I paid like $375 for install and crash bar painted. Had it done at autobody shop that is apart of my local Audi dealership and a few other brands.

I did mine myself and I’m nowhere near a professional for car stuff. It took me one hour for the grill off and back on, and a separate hour in the middle to paint the crash bar with bed liner spray paint due mainly to time between coats. I recommend doing it yourself.

Depends on what type of grill you get and the amount of sensors and camera you need to unplug. Took me about 4 hours with an OEM RS6 grill which needed the tabs taken off. That also included taking the bumper completely off and back on after install

Same here the OEM grille takes some work but it fits the electronics very well.

Agreed. Took about 4 hours for me too because of the things you have to disconnect:

    • Headlight washer fluid line
    • parking sensor cable
    • ACC radar (x2)
    • Night Vision connector
    • Front Camera cable
    • HomeLink garage door opener
    • Ambient temperature sensor

Then you gotta modify the grille slightly if you've got night vision and/or front camera

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry it took a while to get back to the thread to read through them. Like I said, things have been incredibly busy as of late. I will look at which grills I want (RS6 style most likely) and reach out to some local shops for pricing. If I wait until I have time myself, it will be well into the summer or beyond unfortunately.

I just did this on my 2016 S6. Another car blew a stop sign and ran into my fender, so the bumper was already off. I bought the RS6 grille from Europrice for just under $2000. I gave the body shop the Europrice instructions and one of the detailed posts from the forum (there’s more modifications to the tabs than one would expect). I didn’t have black optic, so the matching park sensors were $350. (The body shop works on tons of Audis and says that painting them rarely works). They charged for 5 hours of labor, including modifying the mount for the front camera. Dealer had to align cameras and radar. All in, about $3000. It looks great and I’m happy I did it.

Over $3,000 for a new grille? Holy cow.

My body shop painted my parking sensors and it worked fine. Others on the forum said the same, which is why I went that route.

Parking sensors themselves are meant to be painted lightly and still maintain their functionality. Calibration of the ACC sensors and that like can be done if needed, but generally not required.

The modification on the grilles themselves can seem a little daunting but there are some great DIY posts on here that assist. With that said a good body shop should be able to do this in 3-4 hours or so would be my guess.
