    Window Regulator Clip Replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I’ve looked on the forums and youtube for just replacing the plastic clip on the window regulator and see that I’m able to do that, I just was wondering if I would be able to replace the clip by only removing the door card and NOT removing the entire window regulator assembly so i don’t have to deal with the rivets and hassle. Anyone know?

Sorry I can’t help with your question, but I will say that I’m happy I replaced mine - owning a pop riveter was a lot of fun. For a while I was literally walking around the house and garage looking for things to rivet.

Also I’ve owned about 10 cars in my life, mostly old beaters, and I’ve never had a window regulator fail. That is until I got a B5S4, and it’s had two fail.

In reviewing this DIY which is a full regulator replacement... https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...-Regulator-Fix

If you are just replacing clips I don’t think you need to replace the rivets.. I have not done it myself but it appears that way in the pics... But the assembly needs to come out as the doors have little to no room to work in.

I am also looking at replacing my clips on my BB Avant as I have some rattles and looseness on my drivers side window. But I have been leaning towards just replacing the whole frame/regulator as I feel my frame has a slight bend letting in air/noise at speed on the high way.

Thanks for the responses! Took the door apart yesterday and realized I had to get also taken out the whole window assembly to reach the clips. Once I got the replacement clips put on I saw that the cable was way too short to put snap in to the clips because the window was rolled up so I plugged everything back in along with door card to roll down window just to find out that the motor is messed up I think. Must be birds nested or something like a fishing pole because it makes noise and I was able to brute force pull some of the cable out, but definitely not working. Looking at buying a door of a b5 a4 from facebook just to get the window assembly out to put in mine. Should work because all the controls are the same and they’re practically same car. Thoughts?

Got the door of a scrap b5 a4 and took the inside out, looks the same aside from missing a sheet of white plastic that the s4 has. Guy that sold it said the window works but there was some moisture inside so crossing my fingers. Going to switch my glass in so tint matches and try to get it in this weekend!
