I pulled out my tri electrode Bosch plugs they'd done 60 K miles ( yeah I know Bosch are generally not liked ) and put in an another used set of Bosch side electrode platinum I had and car runs so much better, smoother and no detectable miss at high revs which I was getting
    Which NGK's are the go-to now ?

For stage 1 I'd stick with stock heat range NGK BKR7EIX.

I'm current;y running Bosch Platinums (though I'm stock) and have no issues with them.

Ah,that model rings a bell from when I was last looking for plugs on here probably 5 years ago. They get a good rap but exxy over here- about $A75 a set.I remember why I went with Bosch,I had a big order from FCP and the extra postage didn't matter....
I'll go with them anyway,60k is probably time for replacement with any iridium plug.
Incidentally, many many of your mommy missiles over here, very popular..when I was looking at upgrading Wolfie last year, the common thread from the owners selling B8's and 9's was " kids arriving, #1 needs a Q5 "

Yea that’s what we did for sure, haha. First kid on the way, the Avant became mine, the sedan was sold and the q5 was bought. Then when number 2 came we had to upsize to the Q7. They were both great cars but q5s are really not that big at all, two kids and two dogs and it was way overloaded.

Stock plugs PFR7S8EG gapped to .028.

Gap is more important than what model of NGK plug you run but the stock plugs are fine for stage 1 and last long.

FTFY. 0.8mm is the standard gap specified by audi, which translates to .032".

Also I'm using the bosch FR6KPP332S plugs just to add to my sorta vague post above.

Just had a look at your plugs-DOUBLE platinum ! amazing no ones brought out triple platinum haha marketing....
The advantage I see with the plugs Jake likes above ( which are the same that I just pulled ) are that there is no gap to contend with, also they are crazy cheap, even over here ie $A26 for 4....

And no wonder my Bosch were misfiring,I just discovered from spark plugs.com (fake news aside ) that they are only rated for 30k miles,I had done 60k

Yes. .032 for stock boost levels is fine.

Stage 1 at 20 PSI should be gapped to .028. But the stock heat range stock plugs are fine all the way up to K04. Just gotta gap them down

I’m running BKR7EIX gapped at 0.026”. I tried BKR8EIX but the car felt “off” with them so I switched back.

He never has anything to back up what he says.

I mean the truth is, there aren’t a lot of cars here making enough power where going above the factory PFR7S8EG plugs gapped at .028 will make a difference. And those cars seem to do fine with BKR8EIX plugs.

People make way to much noise about plugs. Run the right heat range and gap, and replace them when you need to. That’s it. 🤣

Most of the canned tuned manufacturers create their tunes using OEM style plugs. So the tune is based on that performance level. I went with this kit. if I'm spending the time pulling the plugs out I might as well replace the coils at the same time. I'm skeptical that hotter or colder plugs would make any significant difference under low level tunes.

And don't forget the dielectric grease. But, don't use too much. It can cause the coil pack to slip, potentially causing misfires.

I run 2+ and a colder plug didn't work well (cold engine misfires under load) plus there seems to be more carbon fouling of the colder plug.

Yup. I ran 7 heat range from stock to stage 2. When I went k04, I ran 7's for a littlr, but then switched to 8's(bkr8eix). Seems to run a little smoother under lower RPM, higher boost. It was partially cuz I was trying to see what was causing a little timing pull(2°-3°) up top. Plugs didn't really help, little e85 does. Motoza does recommend bkr8eix with their tunes, so I left them in.

And they’re usually blamed by the guys like Esandes who don’t know anything and are barely modded.
