Looking to upgrade factory radio but need to know options that fit 2006 Avant B7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
With any other car I've had it's been easy picking out a upgrade for the radio. With this car however I'm running into some trouble as far as what will fit.
I called around to many local audio shops because I wanted to get bluetooth capabilities added to my 2006 Avant but every single shop made it sound like
it's not easy to do. With the other cars I've had I paid like $40-60 bucks and it wasn't an issue to add bluetooth or even USB's and phone connections to
the car so I could listen to I-Tunes, music from my phone etc. But with this Audi every audio shop I've contacted makes it seem like it's rocket science and
I've been quoted on average (300-400 dollars) to simply add bluetooth capabilities to my factory Bose system. And that's not even upgrading the actual
head unit. That's just to add bluetooth. With that said.. It seems like if I'm going to pay that much I may as well just get a brand new head unit in my car.

I'm also having some issues lately where it seems like the factory unit is draining my cars battery. As of a couple weeks ago my factory radio refuses to turn
off even after removing the key from the ignition. At first I thought it may be the ignition switch that went out on me but after speaking with a friend who
knows more about cars, and after speaking with a few people on this forum it seems like replacing the radio may fix the issue that's left my Audi dead in the
driveway for the past couple weeks? Anyways, if you know of some good options for an upgraded stereo in the car please let me know! Links would be even
better! I need everything for the job because I don't want to pay even more to a car audio shop. I need whatever harnesses I need, whatever connections,
the head unit, and the new frame or whatever it is that allows the new radio to slide into my dash. If you can provide me with some links and what headunits
out there that fit perfectly in the car, please let me know! I haven't had a dope system in a car for quite some time but I usually enjoy Pioneer Premier but I'm
open to other options as well. I am definitely a guy that likes a dope setup as far as car audio so don't feel like you need to recommend me some super cheap
setups either. I'm ready to spend $500-800 for the entire setup. Possibly more. Thanks! I need to get this done ASAP. I haven't been able to work for a few
weeks now ever since the battery died (fingers crossed that replacing the stereo) will fix this issue after I get my battery charged and/or a new battery.

you only need PAC RP4-AD11 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to connect factory plug and the new headunit, work fine and easily setup in a hour.

While you are likely correct about the factory radio draining your battery, may I respectfully suggest you verify that the drain is not a broken brake light switch under the dash attached to the brake pedal. The switch is known to fail and then illuminate your brake lights when the car is shut down, which will drain a battery overnight.

That's a good tip. I've also heard that the factory bluetooth module is a common culprit.

To the OP, I went through a similar debate as you did initially with my RS4. I had a NAV-TV module that would allow me to stream bluetooth audio. It plugged in in the back near the SAT radio module. However, when I swapped out my head unit, it was easily the best change I've made on the car. Not only did it have much increased functionality (Android Auto/CarPlay, Nav, Bluetooth, Ipod, USB, back up camera, front camera, etc) but the sound also increased substantially. Previous to the head unit swap, I added a sub in the trunk but found the head unit really made a difference in the rest of the sound also. Its much much better with the higher output of the new head unit. The unit I used was a Pioneer. I can't comment about other head units like an android powered ones, and the Chinese ones that are fairly common now. I don't believe they put out the same power in terms of voltage to the speakers, but I could be wrong.

    Hope that's a bit helpful.

Which Pioneer unit did you go with? Do you like the operation of the cameras and the Android Auto / CarPlay? Any issues? Could you share some pics of it installed?

I just bought a B7 and will be looking for an upgrade shortly. A couple of Pioneer models are on my short list so it would be really helpful to get some more info on your install and experiences. Thanks!

Mine is actually a few years old now. I think I got it in 2015 or 2016. I still feel I should have done it sooner. To be honest I haven't hooked up any cameras just because I haven't taken the time to figure out the best way. I didn't want an external camera that stuck out like a sore thumb. I know there are ways to make it work with a factory camera from Q7 or similar. But in terms of functionality I can't really comment.

Mine looks almost identical to https://i.ytimg.com/vi/FN5Jh5qTq2U/maxresdefault.jpg

I bought all the wiring harnesses/mounting kits from Enfig.com It was perfect. No cutting, all was plug and play and worked awesome. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I needed to.

Has anyone had experience with xtrons?

I like the idea of filling the whole radio space vs a double din adapter plate, but i am having trouble finding reviews.

    I have a xtron.

Looks good OEMish, works OK kind of buggy.

I have a WIFI hotspot in the car so all my apps work, like google maps, pandora and such.

In real life the shades of blue are in-fact grey, no clue as to why they came out blue.

I ended up getting an Alpine ILX W650 and the full install kit from enfig. However, it seems the 2004 car doesn't send a parking brake signal. I saw there are parking brake bypass harnesses to wire in, but the enfig instructions say not to tap anything else into their wiring as it may destroy the hi-lo controller for the rear speakers. Anyone have any experience solving this? Thanks
