    High Pressure Fuel Pump Replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm getting the low pressure in the fuel rail code. Took the car to Audi for diags. They determined the fuel pump in the tank is performing normal, but I should replace the high pressure fuel pumps that sit on top of the engine. Audi quoted me $1800+ for the repair. No way I'm paying that. I'll do it myself. I've seen a few videos of people with my engine using Hitachi replacements instead of the OEM stamped parts. Is there a difference in the parts? The difference in cost seems to be around $200 per piece.

    Part numbers:
    079 127 026 F
    079 127 025 G

Buy them off of Amazon or RockAuto. You'll pay around $220 per pump. Hitachi only. I've got a video about replacing them on youtube, it's about a 60 minute process if you're a beginner DIY mechanic. Maybe 20 if you know what you're experienced.

Ha. I've been watching your videos for a while. Good stuff. I'm pretty sure yours is the one I've been reviewing getting ready to pull the trigger for the parts and to do the work.

You recommended replacing the Cam Follower. Any recommendations on where to get them?

I didn't realize that we had a pump in the tank. I thought we only had the high pressure fuel pump on the back of the engine.

FCP Euro is a good place to get stuff often. If they're prices are close to Amazon or Rock Auto for the pumps, I'd go there. They offer lifetime replacement on any parts you buy.

I paid the dealership prices for the cam followers. You probably don't *need* them for the S5's 4.2L, but I personally did it for piece of mind.

Yes, we have three fuel pumps. I believe the low-pressure in-tank pump is capable of around 160 PSI. But the high pressure pumps boost PSI up to around 10x that. That's Audi's "Fuel Stratified Injection" (FSI engines, like our 4.2L).

    Three? Where's the 3rd one?

I think Sazexa was referring to the pump next to the fuel tank as the 3rd one (2 HPFPs in the engine bay and 1 Relatively-Low Pressure Fuel Pump at the fuel tank)
