Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 in the snow?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello, has anyone used their Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 in the snow/winter climate? If so, how did they perform? I'm debating on either getting these or the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06. I only plan to go to the snow a couple times but I want the all season tire which has the better snow grip. Thanks!

You probably won't get much response here...very slow forum.

This probably won't answer your question since you are looking for real world usage from members.
However I can offer an analytical point of view and my opinion.

Tirerack has good comparison charts, so based on their reviews from owners the PS AS4 is equivalent to the DWS06 in snow and better than it in every other category, albeit since it is new it has less review "miles" reported.

It doesn't look like TR did a snow test on the PS AS4 yet.
But looking at their regular test reports and trying to extrapolate for different tests since they do not directly compare the PS AS4 and DWS06, but did test both against the Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate
The PS AS4 is better in every way in the dry test track by about 3% over it's #1 test rival the GY Eagle Exhilarate and is equal to or a little better in the wet. Where it suffers the most is in Noise comfort and perhaps ride quality.
Whereas in the DWS vs GY the DWS is equivalent in the dry test, but about 7% worse in the wet with the MS PA A/S3+ (the predecessor to the AS4) taking first place all around and handily besting all of them in the snow tests.
I think once TR does their snow test comparison on the PS AS4 it will likely come out on top.

IMO if given the option I'd take the brand spankin' new PS AS4 over the DWS06 which debuted in 2015, especially on an RS5 that will only do a little snow duty.

Hope that helps. FWIW if the PS AS4 existed in my size when I got new tires for my SQ5 last year, I probably would have gotten them instead of the Pirelli Scorpion Zero A/S+

    Understood.

Thanks for your detailed response! I really appreciate it! I have the DWS06 on my Mom’s Mercedes GLS and it did pretty good in the snow. I’ve been leaning towards the Michelin’s but I just wanted to see if they performed better than the DWS in the cold.

If you do any spirited driving, I would not go for the contis, they're great in the snow, very quiet and comfortable but they have very little grip in the dry and squeal like a baby pig when you push them. I had the contis on my previous car and now on my new car I put on the pilot sport as4 i believe that it does perform better in the snow than the dws and dry handling is miles ahead, wet performance is similar though, I don't push my cars too much in the wet so I can't really tell you, tire rack has tested both in the dry and wet so you can compare those numbers, and if michelin and tire racks preliminary snow results are to be believed it should perform better in the snow. the michelins do ride much harsher though and they are noisier, possibly worse nvh than the ps4s summer tire due to the complex tread pattern, I believe they used a softer tread and stiffer sidewall to reduce vibration while improving steering feel but the downside is that bigger impacts are harsher.
