    Alternator for A3 Advise Needed!!!!

    Hello All,

My 2015 A3 Premium's alternator is failing. The dealership wants over 2k to replace, no thank you! My car has 112k and I can get a used alternator from a 2015 A3 premium which totaled, the car only has 50k and the damage does not effect the alternator. I can get the part for $130 and have it put in for $200.
I do have other quotes of $1260.00 and $980.00. As for me I don't think it's a big deal to go with the used part. What does the community think? I'm trying to save money. Thank you for your advise, Bobby.

You might as well buy a new one otherwise you’ll just be in the same position again within a few years. Trying to save now at the expense of doing the job properly will potentially cost you more down the line

I go for it. My indie place charged right under a thousand for an alternator replacement 2 years ago. If it’s a stock part from an A3 I’d go for it. It’s worth a shop at that price difference. My was only warranted for 2 years or 24k miles so even if u only get that it’s worth it. Just my 2cents

Thank you, I believe I'm going to go with the used alternator, the car only has 50k on it.

Not sure if it’s in the list but good time to replace the belt as well.

Agreed. Since you already are going to have it off, it’ll save you in labor costs later. Try and get everything you can in that area addressed at the same time.

Do you know likely reason why the alternator is failing? Can you pls provide some history e.g. mileage, accidents, other failures. Tnx
