hello. i have S8 D2 40v AQH and now my engine broken so i changed it to s6 c5 40v engine AQJ . etka shows that intake and exhaust camshafts should be the same on s8 d2 and s6 c5. and indeed my s6 engine have same code intake camshafts like s8, but exhaust camshafts codes are different. s8 D2 exhaust camshafts are 077109022DE - DP.. and in my s6 c5 engine AQJ exhaust camshafts are 077109022DF-DG ,i found in Handler that DF AND DG nockenwell erszetsen to DP-DE what mean that ersetzen or ersezt its mean they changed camshafts codes only but they are exatly same, or they changed camshafts and made more agressive them for s8 ?? thank you

Someone has a good thread on here about the differences between the 4.2 A6, S6, A8, and S8 motor. You are correct, the exhaust cam is different along with the intake if I remember correctly, aiding in tge S8 making an extra 20hp.

I have read the intakes are the same and I've read they're different between to S6 and S8.

Going off foggy and unreliable memory I think the only differences we know about between the S8 and S6 engines are slight tuning, intake cam and intake manifold. And then a few bolt on parts.
Changing the exhaust cam wouldn't get you anything, and no way is there 20hp hiding in exhaust cam lift/ duration. The rest of the engine and drivetrain are similar enough that you can't account for 20hp anywhere; so if that HP figure is accurate then it's in fueling/intake setup.
Anyone know if the hp24 trans in the S8 is the same as in the S6? Is there a gearing difference that takes better advantage of the N/A torque / curve?

I believe the S8 trans is the same, they both have a 4:11 FD...A8 and C5 V8 do not, but do have a 5HP24A

intake cams are same, same part numbers, i checked that in reality, because i have both sets of camshafts, but now cant decide remove from s6 engine exhaust camshafts and change to s8 exhaust cams or not, part numbers are different but i dont know i the lift and duration is the same or not, or only part code different but same lift and duration have. To change cams i need to release ignition, again 1 full day of work. from morning till the night . intake manifolds are same no difference becuse i have both manifold from s6 and s8. engines are totally same , just airfilter boxes are different and intake pipes lenght are different, s8 longer pipe, and s6 shorter. fuel injectors same part number. i dont know osm is the same on s6 and s8 :) and about trans i know nothing , mine s8 from factory came with DGV manual 6 speed. and yes manual gearbox bolt on straight to s6 c5 engine and s8 d2 engine, because all bolt holes are in same location.

In the hierarchy of 4.2 belt engines, I've always known the performance list to be this:

If working from a stock 300hp A6 AWN or similar to S6 levels:
    S6 intake manifold (2 stage)
    S6 intake cams
    S6 throttle body
    S6 injectors
    S6 exhaust manifold
    Tuning

    From S6 to S8:
    S8 Exhaust cams
    Tuning

The difference from the S6 and S8 are only the Exhaust cam and tune. Everything else between the engines are the same.
