    Grille replacement

Happy holidays everyone! So I got what I asked for for Christmas, a brand new RS style grill for my 2019 s5 sport back. It’s one of the ones recommended on several other threads, that shipped from China. It looks amazing. I got the install lined up for a fair price, but decided to check with my local dealer to see what they would charge.

As anticipated the install cost is a little bit more. But the crappy part is the cost for recalibrating the front camera and adaptive cruise control system. This will cost about $800 or so!!!!! They claim that not doing this can render the adaptive cc useless but also cause presense and other acc issues.

So now I'm taken a back a bit. Any thoughts?

$800 plus the cost of the grille and install is insane.

so I just did the exact same thing for my wife's B8.5 A5, you can check out my thread in that subforum. The install was a major PITA, took me about 6 hours. You can do it yourself if you have some good basic tools and a 10mm socket wrench. Yeah, $800 is retarded. I did run into a snag with the two front parking sensors behind the grill, but I figured out a workaround. It would probably take a professional only 2-3 hours to do the job, so let's say $100/hr; max I'd pay is $300.

If it's installing the grille + recalibrating the sensors, it's not a bad price. Technically, you don't "need" to recalibrate it but het thats my .02 I had my RS grille since last summer and didn't have the need to calibrate itaand my ACC and self-stop function works just fine.
I paid my friend $100 + tips for installing the grille.

    Grille replacement

So the 800 was just recalibration!

I have the install lined up through a reputable place for a great deal. Dealer was 300-700 for the install of the new grille. F that

I'm more concerned with the recalibration

F that indeed, find any local car mod shop and they should be able to take care of you.

But the recalibration is a dealer only task from what I understand....

At this point I'm having my shop install it. Just not sure what to do with the recalibration. I don't want to render options less useful that I paid good money specifically to have!

I paid $150 at a local body shop for grill installs on SQ5 and my previous S5. Not sure about camera calibration as I didn’t have ACC. If the camera goes back into the same spot on the new grille, what is there to recalibrate?

Even suspension drops which you would think may affect ACC have not required recalibration. I would trust a good body shop by you to get this done. Was able to retain the crash foam.

Haha that's when the phrase "gotta pay to play" comes in. I've survived a year and a half with no calibration or dealer notes that I should. I haven't had any issues with ACC or presense.

It's not so much the camera as it is the acc sensors in the front bumper.

Yeah I trust reputable body shops more than a mechanic. They literally swap front bumpers all day long. Good luck with it.

So I called my local body shop. They were a bit more for the install than the small shop I was going to use to simply have the grill installed. About the same cost for the install as the dealer actually.

But, they seem very confident that they would not have to get anything recalibrated afterwards. So I think I will give them a shot.

Stay tuned thanks for the feedback! Happy holidays

I am new to this vehicle, but aren't the acc sensors for this car in the "side" grille areas (look sort of like fog lights if you didn't know any better)? And the parking sensors the only things that are in the part of the grille that would be replaced by the rs grille?

That is correct on the two points!

There are the two ACC sensors in the side grills. There are the two parking sensors in the main grill and there is also a camera below the Audi rings.

I am hoping to get a RS style grill for my 2018 S5 Sportback in the next few months. I replaced the grill in my ‘14 S5 myself however it did not have ACC or any front sensors or cameras. My SB has the DA package with the ACC and the front camera. I don’t really wanna spend $500+ to have a shop install it for me but I don’t want to get in over my head trying to do it myself and mess up the sensors. I have found some videos on how to do it but none of those cars have ACC. Does anyone know if other videos that are helpful?

My S5 SB has Prestige package and the grille swap was pretty straight forward. When removing the OEM grille you have to remove the plugs that attach right onto the sensors. The RS grille (from 2019) came with sensors already and all I had to do was plug it in. No need to fiddle with sensors.

Great. Thanks! Is that the same for the ones in the side grills? IMG_3690.jpg

I just had a mesh grill from German Car Accessories installed on my S5 prestige. No need for camera calibration but the angle of the camera was adjusted with screws as the grill is flat and the camera should be angled. A high end body shop did the job for $100. They said it was a very easy job.

Hey guys, I scheduled to install mine next Monday. Do I have to use angled parking sensor housings or the ones on the factory black optic grill will work?

I am wanting to know the exact same thing, are these needed in order to avoid cutting the crash bar or making other alterations?

I am hearing it depends on each car year, run and even VIN # etc. I have the one from CarbnLabs coming to me :-)

Installed. My shop bitched about it, and it took them 4 hours. They were upfront about their disdain for aftermarket parts before the job. Had to notch the bumper rail and do some custom foam cutting. It's on though. It had them leave off the s5 emblem and quattro l sticker so I can decide later, but I think I want them on. So I'll do that soon
