    Q7 Air Suspension

    Hey guys
I'm looking into picking up a 2012+ Q7 TDI S-Line to replace our Lexus NX that we are quickly outgrowing. We've decided on the Q7 because we want a larger three-row vehicle (her) that can tow stuff, is unique, and requires maintenance to keep fidgety hands busy (me). I've had a few Audis in the past (B5 S4s, B6 A4 2.7t swap) and love the brand.

For the most part it seems like the offerings on the pre-owned market are similarly spec'd, with the odd-ball option being the active air suspension. I'd prefer this feature because I like the ability to raise or lower the vehicle depending on the driving situation and I might be towing some heavier loads (brother has a race car) with the vehicle. The added complexity doesn't scare me because I can fix it myself. So I'm wondering if I should hold out for one with air suspension? Or is it as bad as the first-gen Allroads where people basically replace it with standard suspension in the end anyways?

Another thing I was wondering is if there are there any major differences from 2012 to 2015?

    Thanks!

I have the air suspension and really like it, especially for towing. Taken my boat over the mountain passes here in WA multiple times and it’s been effortless. The air suspension levels the car when towing and the novelty of adjusting it during regular use is fun.

I can’t speak to longevity but I believe it’s fairly stout. Haven’t seen many issues, certainly not like the old allroad air system.

If you can wait and find one with it, you’ll be happy you did.

Some other differences that come to mind between 2012 and 2015 - different MMI generations and 2015 had the V12 body kit option.

The air on these is way better than the Allroads, they are pretty reliable now and definitely worth it.
Also if you need a car with three rows this one is pretty pathetic, you really should test it out first. I don't think anyone over 5'10" will be happy back there.
