    Anyone Tried Kumho Tires?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just bought a set of Kumho Ecsta PA51 tires in 245/35R19 for my S4. Grand total was $620 after some decent discounts. Im just wondering if anyone here has run this tire or ran this brand?

From reviews they appear to be a really good bang for the buck.

For those who may feel the need to comment on me buying $600 tires instead of $1000+, I dont race or track my car. I drive conservatively most of the time but like to get on it hard occasionally with a few launches here and there.
I have never had an issue with traction even when running a $380 set of nankangs (when I was having camber tire wear issues, which has been fixed) so i doubt these will give me issues.

Im really looking for an affordable tire that will be comfortable and quiet that provides decent tread life.

Let me know what you think about Kuhmo

Following this thread, I heard Firehawks are quite good and reasonably priced.

I heard the same, but I couldnt find one in the right size for less than 200 per tire.
My car is fairly low and I have OEM 19" rotors so to not rub in the front the 245/35 is the key. That size seems to be somewhat of an oddball.

Im at the point in my life where I look for a comfortable long lasting all season tire, not a sticky loud aggressive looking performance tire

I ran some Kuhmo's on my e46 and they did quite well. I did a single track day in them and actually had multiple people look to see what I was running as they were performing well. I don't recall what exact tire they were, but they were a high performance all season. Not quite apples to apples, but I would consider Kuhmo for my S4 based on my experience.

I run a 245/40 18 kumho ecsta in the winter (all season) for about 20,000 miles over the last few years and they have done well. I’m fairly low and manage to get around in 2-4” snow just fine. The sidewall can be a bit soft when driving hard but overall traction and grip is good. The only pet that can make me uneasy is going through deep standing water at speed.

Also I run a 255/35 19 fire hawk in the summer and love those as well for the price. They’re no Michelin but it definitely performs well above its price tag.

How was the road noise? also did you ever have uneven wear? I have gotten cupping on my previous 2 cars, camber and toe were both ok on each car. I am assuming it was the tire.
I cant stand the harmonics that i get with cupped tires

Another cheap but decent A/S are the Ironman Gen 2. Road noise isn't bad, dry grip is awesome and rain they are great. Not awesome in the snow as they don't like to turn otherwise super cheap tires.

I've run Kumho tires on my Audi's and VWs in years past. No problems at all and they lasted a really long time. I don't recall anything sticking out positive or negative. At the time the reviews guided me to the brand as a real value-oriented "challenger" brand and I had no hesitations to put them on my cars.

I had them on my B7 about 5 years ago. Didn't have any complaints. They were even used on the record 1/4 mile runs lol

I found this photo of the set of Kumho Ecsta ASX off my B6. I believe this was 50,000 miles of wear over 9 years. I ran them for so long I honestly can't remember. I should look at the receipt of install for mileage.

I’ve had these Bridgestone Potenza RE980 AS since I’ve bought my car and have put on over 17k miles and they’ve been pretty dang good. I’ve done some pretty spirited driving (no auto x but it was through a road course with some action), rain, snow, ice, etc. My only complaint if any is any kind of ice they’re bad. All of this is on worn out tread. I’m getting them replaced again with another set. I’m comfortable with them and knowing how they handle being worn out, them being new should be even better.

Side note I ran Kumho’s on my old Saturn SC2 and for the price they were tough to beat and really took well to high mileage.

I ran Khumos on my 2nd gen Eclipse and Talons. Good tires.

For the past few years I have been using ONLY Achilles ATR Sports and Sport II’s. These are summer tires. Used on my daily A4 and now the S4, many many sets (wheel changes mainly) Great dry grip, great wet grip, quiet, comfortable ride and best of all a set of 19’s with the heavier weight rating ran me just over $300, yes a set. Any chance I get to recommend these I do, however, people rarely take my advice! Lol

When I bought my car it had VMR wheels with Michelin’s on them ($900 tires, I have the receipt from PO) these were hard, loud and shitty in all weather IMO. I believe they were so hard they caused the bends in my rims on the PA roads. I bought brand new Vorsteiner wheels and put the Achilles tires on and not one bend on the same roads.

The site I use for the Achilles is “Simple tire”

I had no issues with noise or cupping, the tires wore evenly and did not produce noticeable noise. That being said, I only put about 4,000 miles a year on my cars, so I bet the tires barely had 10,000 miles on them when I moved on to the S4.
