Hello all. I had the car running last night with the hood opened while I sprayed some of that spray into the vent intake area that removes the musty smell from blowing through the vents. I noticed a pretty pronounced ticking sound that I had never heard before. To be fair, in the 1 year I have owned the car, I probably haven't ever had the hood opened with the engine running so maybe it has been doing this all along and I just didn't notice it.
Also, I can't recall if it was making the sound before I started spraying the solution in the vent intake thingy or if it started as a result of me spraying it in there. I'm trying to determine if maybe I caused it by spraying it in there. I doubt it but thought it could be a slight possibility. The ticking sound does come and go. It will do it for a while and then stop and then start again.
I have circled in the picture where the sound it coming from and I believe that to be the purge valve. When I put my hand on it, I can feel it ticking. I did some research last night and found that it is normal for the purge valve to make a ticking sound. Is that true and is this normal? Video link below.
Car is 2013 A6 3.0T.
Thanks.
