Updating MMI / NAV maps to current version?

What's the story with updating the MMI / NAV on the B8.5s? Searching on Ebay, there are all sorts of options, of which I have no idea what to select. Googling for it returns how-tos for DIYing (almost seems like "hacking" the system), but everything I've found is at least several years old. Same with searching Audizine. I assume I could go to the dealer, but I bet that's got a $300+ pricetag on it, which I won't spend just on principle.

Specifically, I'd like newer maps. Occasionally I do rely on the onboard nav. For example, a month ago, I forgot my cell phone and didn't realize it until I was a couple hours from home. My watch has cellular on it so I was still "in touch", but trying to do nav on it without it being driven by my phone was a no-go.

I looked up my car's current versions.
Software version: HN+_US_AU3G_P0733
Navigation database: 8R0060884CA NAR 6.10.2

I found this site, and when I punched in the firmware version for my car, this is what it suggested:

$139 for the upgrade feels reasonable as long as that's the latest available for my '15, and assuming that it's relatively recent. I Googled for that firmware, and I have no idea when it's from. Same for the maps. Wait, does 6-2020 mean it's from June of this year (or are those random numbers that don't indicate the date)?

K0942 is the latest FW the _# after defines which variant it is for.

Upgrade My Audi are pretty good. Lots of people have used them.

I just bot the "bundle" from them. The issue is getting the files unpacked. I have a Mac and for "ease" a Windows PC is best. I will let you know how I do.

Looks the same. It adds all the new road that have been made between whenever your version was released and now.

I'm in the middle of doing this now through the upgrademyaudi.net website and it has worked fantastic. Just absolutely make sure to head all his warnings and read through everything before starting. Just need to do my map updates now but not looking forward to babysitting the car for 2+ hours.

Just stick it on a charger and leave it.

If you are worried about someone borrowing it, take a wheel off!

Able to get everything done?? I just bought the bundle too and am going thru all the instructions to make sure that I’m going about the downloading correctly.
