Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 vs. Toyo Proxes Sport A/S

Hey everyone - I'm changing my tires to all-seasons as they fit my needs more on my A7 - going for the OEM 265/35/20 size

    I found two options:

    1. Continental ExtremeContact DWS06
    2. Toyo Proxes Sport A/S

The Toyo Proxes Sport A/S is half the cost at 4 for $600 (vs. $1300 for the Continentals), and the only major difference on paper to me really is a 40k mile warranty (vs. 50k on the Continental). That, + the Toyo's are 5lbs heavier per tire. All other specs, really the same.

Only problem is the Toyo's are so new as they came out in April this year, so I don't know what to make of them.

Anyone have any experience with the Toyo or could give an opinion? Worried mainly about road noise.

I switched from Michelin P4S tires to the Continental DWS 06 tires on my RS7 and I've been impressed. Very quiet tires. Very good in the rain as well. Not as much grip at the limits but still very good considering it's an all season.

Surprised by the price btw. Step up to 275/35/20 and they're a lot cheaper.

Thanks - I worry about issues if I step up to that, as I have the W-spoke forged wheel 20" (OEM Audi). They're 9 width and ET37.

I too live in FL most of the year so it is good to hear about the performance in the rain.

I put 275s on my stock 20 in wheels on my A7 without any issues at all, you get a little meatier look and more sidewall so a slightly more forgiving ride than the 265s.

If you are looking at the Continental Extremes then take a look at the Control Contact. Basically the same price and they seem to get better ratings on discount tire website. The Extremes have an average life of 43,000 miles while the controls will go almost 60,000 miles. I am running the 19 inch Control Contacts on my A7 in the Chicagoland area and they do great. My first set went 63,000 miles, just bought my next set for the car.

I decided to first try out the 265/35/20 Toyo Proxes Sport A/S.

For $500 cheaper and a 30 day money back guarantee for whatever reason, I figure I'd try them out first and worst case, go to the 265/75/20 or 275/35/20 Conti's.

I figure ~$850 out the door is a pretty good deal for all-season Toyo Proxes Sport A/S.

Curious, what is the width of your OEM 20's?

Thanks! These you recommend are actually rated higher on the Discount Tire site ("Best" vs. "Better" on the Extreme's). The price difference is minimal though, and still would be around $1200 for me (vs. $850 for the Toyo's).

YES! I had the DWS06 on my 2016 Ford Taurus SHO and they fell apart after about 15,000, seriously! I ran right back up to Discount Tire and luckily I got about $700 in credit and DT told me the better tire for a fat heavy 4-door sport sedan is the Continental Control Contact Sport. Love them! Excellent AS tire! You won't regret it.

Nice!! Glad to hear this. I'm getting them installed Wednesday and then they have a nice 500 mile trial period, so I'll be taking the car from ATL to Charlotte and back, which should put me right around 460 miles or so to test them out :)
