    Calling All Black Q's/SQ's!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello all, new owner to a Mythos Black Q5 3.0T here, and for the life of me, I can't decide on what I want to do in terms of cosmetic mods. This may be just a personal belief, but I feel like in order to mod a black car, it needs to be done properly, but when it's done well, it can look SICK.

I'm not sure if I want to get the RS-style grille with the aluminum or black outline, and I have no idea what wheels would best match the rest of the car. I've gotten to like the VFF-103's a lot, but, again, I'm not sure if aluminum wheels would add too much silver/chrome to the car, or if black wheels would make a "too" black car.

So, I'm asking any black Q5 or SQ5 owners to please post pictures of their builds! Any advice on wheels/grilles and personal preferences are also helpful.

    Thanks so much!

    Here's mine :)

Having owned two black vehicles that I modded, you need some hints of color here and there. "Blacked out" or "murdered out" looks are IMO played out and look tacky now en days.
I would suggest simple things like painting your calipers a color of your choice, debadging the rear, adding larger wheels that contrast on black like copper/silver/gunmetal, an RS grill is always a solid choice (I prefer the chrome outer ring to complement your OEM silver trim). In the end it's your vehicle and you should do what makes you happy, but that is my 2 cents.

100% agree with this – contrast is good. I don't hate the blacked out/murdered out look, but it's not for me. One thing I do hate, though, is putting black wheels on a black vehicle that has chrome/silver trim. It makes the trim pop out and wheels completely disappear. If everything including trim is black, black wheels don't disappear quite as much. But either way I think copper/silver/gunmetal is the way to go no matter the trim.

    Clun9's looks great.

At my old office someone else drove a stock height and wheels black optics SQ5. Stole a couple side-by-side pics that might be useful to you. Also since we're talking about painted calipers on black Q5s, here are mine in yellow. I haven't yet taken a nice full side profile pic after going yellow, but I think the effect comes across well enough.

Not necessarily black, but a member on here's (Russ?) Moonlight Blue looks killer with just a set of bronze HRE's and pulls off the dark theme very well:

Haha thanks, I've fully embraced the inverted honey bee look on this car, black, yellow, gold, and hexagons everywhere even if they'll cause more harm than good on my rotors.
The discs are from Adam's Rotors. The calipers are just the stock SQ5 calipers that I painted with a blend of G2 caliper paint in yellow and gold.

I also agree that some contrast is necessary. Here's my SQ5 with her new Ecodes. The grey reflectors really tie everything together. I'm using my VFF102s as my winter setup now. Planning on getting some BC Forged in bronze for summer. DSC_0124.jpg

I just got a 2017 sq5 in mythos black. I am contemplating putting gloss back BC forged RZ22's... Am I crazy having too much black? Unfortunately, I have no way of seeing it but I think it will look good. Thoughts?!

Black optic or chrome trim? Yes with the former, nope with the latter.

I think having some contrast is good. If all the parts of the car are all the same, it just seems too mono tone. Black optics on a white or silver car is great for example. But brushed or chrome pieces on a black car is a good supplement.

Totally agree — but it’s better if the wheels contrast the car, instead of only having the trim stand out as the only contrast. I’m just saying if he’s set on getting black wheels, they’ll work better if the trim is black too. But I think another color wheel would work best on a black car no matter the trim.

Yep yep, I went from the oem silver 21" wheels to 22" Bronze Niches, and now 20" silver HREs. The next set will be bronze as well. Honestly I believe the best 2 colors for wheels on a black car is silver and bronze with titanium will be a close 3rd.
