    Sunroof "Home Position" Reset Procedure

    Hello everyone.

I am having a problem with my Audi C5 S6 sunroof where it appears to think "home" is not in the right place. What I mean by this is that:
-if you move the switch to fully open, the sunroof will fully open like normal
-if you move the switch to fully closed, the sunroof will fully close, but then the motor will stay active and begin to push the sunroof out. Therefore leaving some gap at the rear of the sunroof.
-from this "closed" position, I have tested the "raise" and "lower" functions
-the "raise function will continue to raise the sunroof slightly but it will hit a patch of resistance and come back down slightly
-the "lower" function will not lower the sunroof any lower than the position it is in, but it will lower it slightly if I have used the "raise" function to return to the original "slightly open" position.

If I use the "put the key fob in the door and hold it to the locked position" I can get the sunroof to close perfectly as long as I stop the closing before it pushes out.

On one of the forums I found a reset procedure for the sunroof and tried to complete it multiple times, it goes something like this:
-set the sunroof to fully open and while it is opening unplug the power connector to the sunroof motor.
-after unplugging the power, set the switch to fully closed, shut of the ignition and remove the key.
-wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the power connector
-turn ignition on, then quickly move the switch from closed to open and back to closed.
-then after the sunroof has closed completely, pull down on the switch horn.
-hold pulling down on the switch horn for x seconds until the sunroof has fully opened/closed
    -ignition off
    -sunroof should be reset.

But I cannot seem to implement this procedure correctly. Because when I get to the pulling of the switch horn down, the sunroof simply stays in place and doesn't make any sort of "I am in programming mode movements".

I have also tried to pull the battery cable from the car and reposition the sunroof into the proper home position by winding the motor with an allen key. But that also did not change the "home" position. As soon as I plugged the battery in and the switch was set to closed, it returned to the "closed but partially pushed out" position.

Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations about what else I could try? Maybe I am doing the reset procedure wrong? If someone had a video of it working successfully that would be most helpful. All I can find is videos of people cranking it closed.

I've been having similar issues with my C7 roof. It was acting up randomly, for a couple weeks. Then it just stopped responding all together.

I put in a different switch. It started responding, but like yours... didn't seem to know where home was.

I searched all kinds of "learning" steps. None of them worked. And, no codes stored in the computer.

    All very puzzling...

I don't think that reprogramming things is real. I can tell you how to fix it though.

Slide your sunroof shade back all the way. Pop the sunroof UP and find the 3 small torx screws on either side that hold the sunroof panel in. The center screw on each side does not need to be fully removed. But each screw at the end needs to come out. Then stand in the door and lift the sunroof panel out. I usually put a towel or something on the roof and just gently flip it over and lay it up there.
NOW. The car doesn't know there's no sunroof panel- so the whole thing will operate perfectly normally. You can operate the sunroof and watch as it slides back and watch the frame/ linkage move.
You need to move the switch to 'closed' and check each side of the moving sunroof frame to make sure it is aligned EXACTLY on both sides. Also check the guides and frame to see how much slop/ movement there is. The whole thing has very tight tolerances. One thing to try is to remove the motor and use the allan wrench/ crank to manually open and close the sunroof and feel for where it gets stiff or binds.
One of the guides on my car broke and it ended up skipping a tooth or two on one side and went all out of whack. So I had to dismantle it and a bunch of trial and error to get it working again- there's no big secret to getting it straight and moving. Just check VERY CAREFULLY that it's perfectly aligned on both sides- if it's off on one side the only way I got it straight was to remove the motor and use a screwdriver tip to lever against the cable in the orifice where the motor gear meshes with the cables and get it even.
Taking the sunroof panel out is really very easy though- and I think it's the only way to see whats going on.
