No route image shown after map update MMI 3G high

I used the upgrade software from https://upgrademyaudi.net/ to get my 2010 MMI 3G high upgraded.

The firmware worked as expected. It fixed my issue of Sirius disappearing from my radio bands.

I then installed the map update and it seemed to go as planned except for taking about 2 and a half hours to install when the vendor claims about half that time. That being said, no errors/issues. I activated the maps and all seemed to work as expected except that when I enter an address that is more than about 40 miles away, there is no map and routes visible on the route selection screen. There are 3 route options to choose from, and each has the right distance shown, but I can't see these routes on the map.

If I zoom into areas further way than 40 miles I can see that the map shows the streets. Why doesn't it show a route on the screen? Is there a setting to adjust or is this an issue with the map download? I redid the download taking care to delete the old database and HDD partition and nothing has changed.

No route image shown after map update MMI 3G high

    Have you driven it since?

I updated my maps, then panicked as it said I was in the sea, suggested routes, but wouldn’t navigate anywhere. The same as you. I thought I had royal wrecked the MMI!

I decide to go for a drive to see if it would recalibrate and hey presto it got my location spot on and is now absolutely fine.

Nav seems to work fine once a route is selected. It's just weird that the routes are shown on the map when they are close and not shown when 30 or more miles away.

I went for a small drive last night with a route programmed, but I wasn't following the route. The nav was working, constantly adjusting. I kept re-entering destinations to see if issue would resolve itself, but it didn't. I'll give it more time and see if anything changes. It's not a big deal, just annoying.

Don’t set a route, just go a couple of miles (as the crow flies) away from home.

You can also try a reboot once you are away from home.

My map install on 3G+ took about 3 hours last time as well, so I wouldn’t worry too much about the time it took.

The NAV is able to compute routes and guide to the destinations. The issue is just the absence of the map and routes shown on the map on the route selection screen. There is no map shown so you can see on the map what each route looks like. The mileage for each route is shown correctly on the right side of the MMI screen.

I set a route and drove to work today. It's about 10 miles from home. That works fine. I then input a destination about 50 miles from home, 40 miles from work. When I set this destination from home, there was no map displayed at the route selection screen. From work, the map is displayed at the route selection screen. I entered another destination more than 40 miles- from work and no map on the route selection screen.

So the issue is visible at the route selection screen but is clearly related to zooming out on the map. When I increate the zoon from 6 to 8 miles, the map goes blank and remains blank at any higher zoom. The map becomes visible again once the zoon is decreased to 6 miles. I'm certain that it wasn't this way before I updated the maps/firmware. I didn't check this after the firmware update but before the maps update.

Did you put it on a SD card yourself?

If so, did you use PC or MAC?

PC. I unpicked the files and copied to my own SD card. When I re-installed the maps I, unpacked the files again, didn't re-use the previously unpacked files.

Hmmm, this should be fine then. If you use MAC it can cause problems. Some other thoughts:

    1) Have you tried using a different SD card? I assume you are using a 32GB one? Sometimes the MMI doesn’t like some cards. Make sure it it formatted to FAT32 with default cache allocation size.

    2) When you do the map update, do all of the items say N/A or Y? Are there any that say ? Before your press “Start Update”?

    3) I don’t suppose you have Carista/OBDeleven/VCDS.

There are 2 faults which can appear in module 5F when you update the maps; 03276 and 03175, they should not affect the functionality though. They can be easily fixed as well.

03276 - Please Check Software Version Management will appear every time when the software is updated w/o VAS connection to the VW/Audi servers.
03175 - Invalid Data Set will appear when updating the map w/o deleting it first. Sometimes this helps to avoid that error.

    Start from scratch

Install new firmware to bring you up to date with the latest verison.

Go into GengMEnu - delete maps data - and reinstall and activate

    1. I've been using the same 32G SD card this whole time. It's a brand new Sandisk.
    2. I don't remember but I think they all say N/A except for 1 or 2 below AUDI_MMI3G_XXX. I open the AUDI_MMI3G_XXX folder and set all subfolder to Y.
The first time I loaded the maps I didn't touch Navipersistence. The second time I opened that folder and set it to Y just to see what would happen. Same result each time.
    3. I do have VCDS

I'm dealing with an electrical issue now so I'm spending more time chasing that. I am seeing a fault in my radio module that comes back each time I clear the codes. I have no idea if this is part of the problem with the Nav or the battery draining.

    00003 - Control Module
    014 - Defective - Intermittent
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 00101110

Once I get this resolved I will try the MMI firmware and maps again.

So the electrical issue is from my Sirius module in the trunk. It's putting a constant draw on my battery and draining it. I'm searching for a replacement from local junkyards. Does this module have anything to do with navigation? I'll replace this unit and try reloading the firmware and map updates.

No this unit is separate, but it is part of the MOST loop and so can affect other systems on the loop.

The Navigation is solely inside the 5F system - i would seriosuly advocate, flashing the most up to date version of the firmware first (K0942 from memory), deleting the maps database, and reinstalling the maps again.

Yes I will re-flash the latest firmware. For me it is K0133_3_D1. I’ll also use a different SD card since I lost mine. Then I’ll delete the old maps and reinstall.

Well this Map zooming issue has been resolve by the dealer, unintentionally, while fixing another issue with the MMI, and creating a new issue with the MMI.

I had a bad Sirius module. It worked, but it gave an fault for that it was defective -intermittent. Apparently it was not turning off when the car went to sleep and was putting a constant draw on the battery. I grabbed a replacement from a junkyard with the same part number. Indy shop installed it. It seemed to function properly, I could change Sirius stations and hear the content. Unfortunately, changing this module put the MMI (channel 56 Radio) into component protection mode. The sound would mute and come back every couple of second on AM, FM and Sirius. I decided to have the dealer fix this today. I'm told that after whatever they did to resolve the component protect mode, Sirius disappeared from by band options. I'm back to just AM and FM. They said they reloaded the latest MMI software but that didn't bring it back. They said that the new Sirius module could be bad. I find this hard to believe. I was in a bit of a rush so I just took the car and left.

My Sirius presets are still listed and when I hover over them, show song and artist. If I select a Sirius channel from the presets, nothing happens. I still hear the FM station I had on.

Scanned the car and there are no faults from the radio channel for the Sirius module. I do have a fault in channel 56 for a blown rear speaker (been like that for a long time).

The Sirius setup screen shows no information for the electronic serial numbers, audio and data. I've never looked at this screen before, but I assume it would show something if it was programmed correctly.

What do I do next? Go back and push the dealer to get it right? I could try to reload the MMI software I have, but I'm thinking that may have created the map zooming issue I started this post to resolve, that is now resolved.

I would assume you need to update the Sirius Subscription - I bet it's different ESN for the Sirius Module?

And if it was me - I would go directly back to the dealer - Sirius worked when you brought it to them correct? You expected them to fix it fully not return it non-functional.....

I was thinking about the ESN. Not sure why Sirius was working (in protect mode) without updating the ESN on my account.

Yes, Sirius worked when I gave them the car. I’ll bring the car back and ask them to fix the issues or else refund me so I can try a remote fix or another shop.

I got nowhere with the dealer who did the work. They are claiming that the installed Sirius module is the issue. I don't know how they can say this if Sirius is no longer showing up in the Band menu. I'm debating between reinstalling the HNav_US_K0133_3_D1 to see if the Sirius band comes back. The dealer says that they did this already and nothing changed. The other option is to try another dealer to see if they can figure it out.

I was able to see some Sirius information in Engineering mode under MOST earlier today. I just went back to grab a picture to post and see what others see for this screen. Now it’s blank when I look in MOST. Earlier today I remember seeing the correct part number 4F0 035 082 A. I’m pretty sure some fields were blank like SN.

What year of car did you pull the replacement SiriusXM module from? I know the SiriusXM modules can be extremely finicky when it comes to hardware/software compatibility.

I would also reach out to the user phillip0001 here on AZ. He can help you ensure that you're loading the correct software. [email protected]

Thanks agentsmith988. I searched the VIN and it comes up as a 2010 A4. The replacement is the same 4F0 035 082 A part number. I'll reach out to Philip and see if he has any advice.

From what I can tell right now, the issue is that the dealership put the MMI into a state where the Sirius band doesn't appear on the MMI. I would imagine even with a bad Sirius box that it wouldn't prevent the band from being shown as an option in the MMI. I guess I could re-install by bad Sirius tuner to prove this as it worked fine, just drained the battery when the car was off.

I checked the optical bus through the VCDS last night and saw that optical and electrical were OK with the Sirius module. I have no idea where to find the Sirius ESN. If I had that I could update my Sirius account and see if that changed anything.

I removed the replacement Sirius tuner and reinstalled the original. Now Sirius shows up on radio band menu and works, albeit radio is back into component protect mode. So it appears that the replacement Sirius tuner is the issue. It was working when the dealer took it to remove component protect. Strange timing I suppose.

If this is the case I would investigate the wiring. You could have a short in the wiring somewhere that both caused your existing module to go bad and also killed your new one.

This could be true. The Radio/Sirius tuner failures seem to be different. In the original module, the box itself has a power issue where it drains the battery when the car is off. Otherwise, the box works for AM/FM/Sirius. The replacement radio module doesn't drain the battery, AM and FM work fine but Sirius is dead. When i look in the green menu, there is no Sirius information. Otherwise, this replacement radio module has been working for a month now.

I found a shop that said they can repair the radio module, so I'll have them repair my original to fix the battery drain issue. Seems like a lot of money to spend on satellite radio, but I like having OEM integration.
