Anyone have any experience with APR Plus tune and the limited powertrain warranty?

    Hello,

I just brought my RS3 into the dealer for a oil change.

Upon inspection the tech noticed some oil leaking from the oil pan. Said it could possibly be the gasket, but going to put some dye in it and come back to see if that’s the case.

To cover under warranty they would have to hook it up to the computer, which would flag TD1 and not be covered.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with having this covered under the APR plus warranty. Under what is covered in the terms and conditions, oil pan is in fact listed.

Also, I know this comes up a lot and I haven’t seen a super confident answer one way or the other. But If I were to flash back and bring it into the dealer, would it still flag TD1? My thoughts is yes. But I am wondering if anyone else has experience.

    Thanks in advance.

That's the problem with APR plus. You basically have to get denied warranty work by the dealer, which means you were flagged TD1 before APR will act on it.. I don't have APR plus but my Oil Pan leaked (and my water pump went too) and it's a common problem with 18's and 19's. Most dealers suck and you never know what you're going to get.. I had my local shop Solo Motorsports replace the pan when I had the oil changed. I think the pan and oil change was less than $300. It all depends how important it is to you to maintain the warranty.. IMO if it's something small just pay for it out of pocket and write it off as a cost of doing business.. If it's something big, then it would be worth going through the APR warranty process.

    Thanks, this exactly.

I haven’t reached out to APR yet. The dealer said to claim Audi warranty they would have to hook it up which would flag it and Audi more than likely wouldn’t cover it. Even though it is a known issue. They quoted me 700 to pay out of pocket. For now they just put some UV dye in and said to come back in 1000 miles to make sure that the pan is in fact leaking, and that it’s not residual oil from previous oil changes.

I will probably just end up doing just that, and pay out of pocket. Depending on what the dealer and APR say.

As you said, it’s a cost of doing business.

$700? WTF is the labor rate at that place? It's not a hard job, just do it yourself for the price my god.

If you have APR Plus, who cares if the car is TD1?

I have APR Plus. I had coolant go low. I filled up, then it went low again a couple of weeks later. I was sure it was water pump. Called APR. They said take it to the dealer. If Audi denies, they would pick it up no problem.

Took it to the dealer. Told the service rep upfront car is tuned, don't apply any software updates. They confirmed VAG water pumps are trash, but since car was tuned, it would be "customer pay".

They ran a pressure test and never actually found a leak. I haven't had any issues since, so I never had to file a claim, but it was very reassuring to hear APR say they would take care of it no problem if I had to.

You paid extra for APR Plus. If I were you, I'd take the TD1 all day long and have APR foot the bill. Thats what you paid extra for.

Again.. It all depends on how important it is to "YOU" to maintain the warranty. It's a very individual choice...

I have leased my 6 previous vehicles but not the RS3 bc the lease rates were stupid. Nonetheless I've drag raced, tracked and tuned them all to up to stage 2 and beyond and would remove all the modifications prior to returning the car at end of lease. If the car looks stock at the end of lease and in good condition, the lease return auditors can care less and if you want to trade your end of lease in for a competitive car (going from BMW to Audi or visa versa), it's even better as all they want to do is sell you a new car and they will coordinate the lease return for you and take responsibility. (a few of my cars were purchased by techs at the dealership and a few went to auction) However, if you bring in a modified car and attempt to trade it in tuned and as it is.. Good luck... For every dollar you spent on the modifications you left on the car, that will come off the trade in value and they will Nickle and dime you to death.. I have found it's best to keep the warranty if you can and always return the car as it was when stock.
Years ago it was all a little different. The manufactures didn't do as much due diligence nor did they have the technology as they do today to discover previously tuned vehicles. So if it costs a few hundred dollars along the way, I still feel like I'm way ahead of the game and it's worth it to maintain the warranty, just in case it is researched..

I have APR Plus on my wife's Tiguan. Asked this same question to APR. Basically they'll cover EVERYTHING that the original warranty will cover, but first you have have to have your the manufacturer deny the claim. Once they deny it, you have to go to a APR Authorized dealer to carry out the work. I don't see what the issue is if your car is TD1'ed. That is unless your car is leased.

APR told me multiple times you can still have the dealer make the repairs. They just need to contact APR to authorize it before proceeding.
