How Much Oil Does Your 3.0T Audi Burn?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know that Audis, and German cars in general tend to burn oil, but I was curious as to how much oil these motors burn.

HOW MUCH OIL DOES YOUR CAR BURN?

Before getting tuned, my car liked a quart every 4,000 to 4,500 miles.

I have been about 3,000 miles since my last oil change, and after just 200 miles on APR stage 1, my low oil light graced my dashboard with its warm yellow glow.

Granted, I was making full use of the tune, and enjoying the added power, perhaps a little too much. Does this seem normal? Should I have any concern, or should I just keep adding oil when it asks for it?

My service advisor doesn't seem to be concerned, he says all these cars burn oil.

    Thanks in advance!!

After about 2.5-3k milesI burnt through about a quart. Using Liqui Moly 5-40 Full Synthetic. It’s norm for these cars. Granted I drive a little heavy on the pedal.

I typically go from the "Max" level in MMI to about 3/4 of the way to max, so maybe 1/4 quart or so in my 5,000 mile interval. The car is driven easy 99% of the time, I have a short commute, about 5 miles on secondary roads so my oil temp only gets to 140-150 for most of my driving. Longer drives when the car has more opportunity to warm up I'll get on it a bit, but even still that's a hard pull from a red light or on the highway, then back into D and cruising. If you drive around in M at 5,000 rpm like everyone on youtube does then I'd expect more oil consumption.

All that said, I just tuned the car 2 weeks ago so we'll see what happens in a few thousand miles...

Since I had PCV replaced years ago. I now burn about 1/3 of a quart every 6K miles. Car has 160K miles and running Chipwerke piggy back last 50K miles.

2016 A6 3.0T. I notice the car burns zero oil for the first ~5k miles after an oil change, and then will rip through a quart in the next 2-3k miles after that (min to max on the MMI indicator). I no longer let it go past 5k miles between changes and gauge never leaves full. Mobile 1, 0W-40.

With ours it kinda depends on how much I am pushing on it. Taking it easy I can get 5,000 miles or more without adding a quart.

    Oil change every 6000kms(3700miles).
Rev engine to 7400 RPMs, very strong setup, near 600hp i guess.
Adding 0.5l between oil intervals change.
    PCV been replaced.

1qt per 1,000 miles and sometimes 1qt per 800. 5w40 Castrol Edge. 162k miles 2010 A6 3.0 TFSI. I'm gonna try Amsoil to see if it gets any better, but I suspect it needs a new PCV valve.

Same here. I'm at 72500 miles and will be shifting to 5000 mile oil changes.
In the past I've stuck to the Audi recommended schedule.
I'm due for a lot of services...brakes, oil change, control arms....lots to do, not looking fwd to the bill

It seems highly variable even on a healthy car. My stage 2 is down a 1/4 quart at 4500 miles using mobile1. Recently took at 1.2k mike trip with fully loaded car in 95* heat pushing 95mph wherever allowed. No problems.

My wife’s q7, which weights a 2 tons and is totally abused is down 1/2 quart on mobile 1 after 6k plus miles. That car is constantly in boost whether warm or cold and typically loaded with people and gear. Motul doesn’t seem to burn off as much as the other in that case. She’s only stage 1…. 70k miles, but she's always pushing the car hard.

I had to top up twice. Both times seemed to be under high heat conditions. I think one of the times I drove the car a lot, on boost during very hot conditions and there was also a lot of stop and go slow rolling traffic. The other one of them we were at the hospital during COVID lockdowns and couldn't remain inside. We sat in the car idling, because the weather was cold, and watched movies. I am VERY glad to be able to afford the car at that point. There was no place to go around the hospital and no place in the hospital to stay. I don't know where we would have gone. The first time, I was so close to my oil change, I just left the light on and brought it in. The second time with the excessive idling, I was 3 months out, so I topped it up.

Stage 2 was about a quart every 3 months. 3k mile oil changes were regular and I needed a quart right before it every time. Cars run HOT in the summer.

My '13 has been in service for almost exactly ten years as of this writing. 66k miles on the clock. I change the oil every 8-10k miles and there is no measurable oil loss/burn in between.

I use liquimoly since it only really costs a few bucks more than other things, and I get a nice neat package mailed to my door, and I don't have to go anywhere.

I probably burn a quart every 6-7k, I try not to let it go much over that between oil changes, when I do, it seems to burn more.

I just changed the oil on my wife's Q7. She was down about 2/3rds quart at 7.1K miles. She's stage 1 APR - no trans tune. But she runs that car hard. Oil used was Motul 5w40. Will share Blackstone test when it comes back. I simply cannot help myself.

Changing the oil on may stage 2 A6 w/ - with trans tune - tomorrow at about 4.2K miles on Mobil 1 5w-40. Again, I can't help myself, and will share Blackstone when it comes back. This interval is shorter than normal, but I have all the stuff sitting out and my car was beaten hard over this past few months, so I felt like for less that $50 in oil and filter, I'd get a look at how this oil holds up to my two "favorites" Pennzoil Euro and Motul. I say favorites only because (1) they typically come back with a solid TBN and (2) they don't burn off like dealer Castrol did. Also, when I tried liquiMoly, it burned 1 QT in 5Q miles.

After these two oil tests, I'm picking one oil and stocking the garage cabinets!!

Honda's get M1 0-20. They simply don't seem to care at all.

I need to do a blackstone analysis on my car. I am kind of surprised I didn't do one yet. I did quite a few on my Miata, but nothing was stock in the motor, and I did quite a few track days in it plus running corn.
