Question Best Tire Size for 20x9.0 on C7 S6?

    Hi Everyone,

I’m finding competing information here on the best tire size for 20x9.0 wheels. I’m seeing some saying 265/35/20, but that’s what I also see recommended for the stock 20x8.5” option, which doesn’t make sense to me. I’d like the best driving experience, with some overhang as a little protection, and I’m considering the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. I think I’d like the Hartmann wheels linked below, which they recommend in ET40.

    Thanks for any ideas!!

265/35R20 is ideal for S6 fitment on a 20x9" wheel, and actually the OEM size on the A7/S7. The 6 body doesn't afford as much variance under the fenders, and you'll find a good bit of variance among manufacturers who build a wider/more squared 265mm width over Pirelli, which look fairly narrow for the same size designation.

It's the fault of poor wheel fitment and buyers trying for a too-aggressive offset (ET25) on the A6/S6 who run into clashing with a 265/35 tire, and end up backing down to the 255. Wheel fitment on the S6 is really easy, with an ideal dimension of 20x9, ET35, for a 265/35R20 tire. You're on the right track with those Hartmann reps.

Perfect! This is exactly what I needed!

They say ET40, so I assume that’s just great as well as 35, but it would be great if Hartmann would share a recommendation for tire sizes. Your help is excellent.

    That looks awesome!!

I’d like to get 265/35/20 on my stock Comp package while, but they’re only 8.5” wide... might look a bit pudgy.

The design-equivalent S7 wheel is 9" wide and mirrors this same fitment. Or go with the Hartmann reps in the OP.

265 "technically" is not supported by most tire manufactures on an 8.5" rim, but I have them on my SQ5 with 8.5" wide wheels, they are a bit pudgier, but still not bad IMO. Depends if you can get your shop to do it or not since it is not correct fitment.

    Here is 265/40R21 Pirelli Scorpion Zero A/S+ on stock SQ5 21x8.5 ET33
With the 35 ratio for the A6/S6 the smaller sidewall may look even less pudgy.

It's awesome there's a ton of flexibility here. Looking forward to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 265/35 on 20x9 ET40 now!

That looks pretty good. My shop has been great in the past on experimenting to clear suspension, fenders, etc, but never asked about “ non-standard” rim to tire widths...

Piling on here. I just put 265/35s on my 16 S6 on the ET40 Hartmann black optics wheels. Perfect fit - really fills the wheel wells out with no chance of rubbing - and a wider track and 20mm additional contact patch on each axle. Very OEM+ upgrade, and Zach at Achtuning is a great guy to deal with to boot.

I run the Pilot 4S in warmer months, absolutely fantastic tires but note that like all summer tires not recommended for temps below 40F.
