Damaging to drive with Downpipe on stock tune?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I’m having a local shops install my Uni Down pipe and mid pipes. They are not a Uni dealer so they wanted to charge me a few hundred bucks to also flash the ECU to Uni stage 2.

I have the Uni connect cable and was planning to flash the ECU myself at hone after I drive home from the shop. It’s about 15 miles I would have to drive the car on stock tune with Downpipe to get home. I will drive like a grandma and not hit any boost.

I assume this is totally fine and will not damage the car?

From what I've read, it should not damage your car but it will throw a check engine light.

If you drive grandma with a low rpm I would be tempted to say that you will be ok even if you flashed your car before going to the shop.
But I do believe that your approach is probably better

This thread sort of sums it up. Also, whenever people take their cars in for emissions inspection with aftermarket downpipe, they will always flash black to a stage 1 or even the stock tune and run with that.

May I suggest taking a laptop to the shop and hopefully having wifi and just tune it there in the parking lot.

Literally takes 15 minutes to tune your vehicle once you register your account with Unitronic.

It is strongly recommended to add a battery charger when flashing!

You are fine to run the uni dp on the sage 1 tune. You could run it on a stock tune.

Thanks for confirming my assumptions around this. I did not want to do anything that might damage my car. Sounds like it will not be an issue to drive home on my stock tune.

I will definitely use a battery charger when I flash my car.

I currently use a Mac computer. I believe that Unitronic requires a PC. Has any had any luck getting it to work on a Mac? Maybe using a VM?

If not, does anyone know the cheapest PC or tablet that I can use to flash my car with the Unitronics software?

I setup boot camp on my MacBook just for the unitronic tune and it worked great!
