replacing battery in audi a4 b8

i changed a battery in my audi a4 tdi 2014 today. just to let anyone know its a straightforward diy job if you have a 10mm spanner and a 13mm socket.
when i phoned audi agents they said you have to reprogramme the computer.
But i found out that if you buy the same specification battery and do a swap the electrics come back to normal without any coding.
i managed to save myself £300

where did you find this out ?? i thought the recharging cycles were different on a new battery than an older one , thats why you have to tell the computer its a new battery ..

id buy VCDS and do it myself before paying that kind of coin anyway

What battery did you get? My is always half full per mmi even after a 2hr drive, I think I'm still on original battery 2011. I need to get it done before winter.

The car can already figure out the charging from measuring SoC and internal resistance, etc.
The point of the updating the serial is for the battery statistics.
Unless you have a different kind/size of battery, and then you have to update the part number too.

The more important detail is what battery do you have? Who knows which of the six OE batteries some other person would have versus the one you have.

According to Ross-Tech Wiki coding narows the undercharge/ovecharge band and so prolong life. But by how much? Maybe more effective on auto start-stop cars. Only effective on cars that have energy management module, My S3 soes not have it so nothing to code but the sensors still send gibberish signals like internal battery rersistance.

I was just planning to go next week to change battery. My car died last weekend lol. It was a scary sight. The car tried to flip on and off like 5 times by itself, break malfunction, random errors. I asked someone to jump start and it didn't work. I called for a tow and they were able to jpe start it with hotbox.

Anyway don't hold off like I did. If your battary meter is not full after 20min drive then it's almost time to change it. My meter only show up to half since a year ago.

    Lesson learned.

I'm on my 3rd battery, never had to program any of the new ones and never had an issue (had to replace for other reasons)

I replaced mine with an Interstate agm a couple months ago. Couldn't figure out how to reprogram, don't think the battery exists for the computer so it wouldn't accept the coding. You might get extra life from a properly coded battery but eh. I got a battery with a higher capacity.

okay in fairness i have not started it for 2 months and doing a tender is a pain in the ass with the battery under the spare wheel.

BTW before everyone responds, i know there is an access point under the front cowl, but i have to back my car in where i live and the only power point is at the back of the garage. so it would be handy to pop the trunk and just do it there..

Yeah, it would be interesting to know the part number currently coded in your adaptation value, as well as the stats (Ah, group size, CCA) of the new battery. Our old J367 and J533 software is not going to know the current part numbers, so you'd have to know the older matching part number to what you installed.
