    Documenting My MK2 TTS Mods/Work

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I figured I would start my own thread really to just document stuff I do with my TTS.

This is my 2nd Mk2 Audi TTS. It's a silver 2014 with the Black Optics package. I think that's what it is called. Currently has 23.5K miles on it.

My second car as a backup is a 2017 VW Tiguan. (Really the gfs car).

Previous Audis I have owned - 2004 Audi A4, 2009 Audi TTS, Audi S3, and an Audi SQ5.

My goal with the TTS is to have this as a reliable, fun, daily driver. I definitely plan to gradually get back to a stage 2 setup, probably next year.

My list of things to accomplish before the end of this year:

    - Haldex, DSG, Motor service
    - Clean the engine bay
    - Upgrade entertainment center (found a used xtron for $175 shipped)
    - Fix passenger controls issue
    - Cam follower conversion kit
    - intake upgrade (Found a CTS kit for cheap)
    - Mag-ride replacement with non-mag setup
    - exhaust valve mod
    - IE stage 1

If it's the same as my 09, just unplug the vacuum hose by the rear exhaust tips. This should keep the valve open so exhaust is always blowing out of all tips.

As opposed the stock, the valve closes off one of the tip passages until you are under enough load, are in sport mode, or something along those lines. I forget the exact condition that opens the valve, but it's vacuum activated.

Just remember to cap the vacuum hose you unplugged.

Let's get the easy one out of the way, cleaning the engine bay.

Too bad I didn't grab a before. It was filthy.

Not bad for $175. I can't complain too much with this used Xtron.

It does have that speaker noise since I have a BOSE system. Really not noticeable unless I'm parked. Installed a hi-low converter which got rid of the speaker noise, but it also cut volume way down. So I just removed the converter for now. Will have to sort this later, doesn't really bother me.

Install was pretty straightforward, even had time to convert my cigarette lighter into two usb ports with Android Auto.

It's not bad for the price.

CTS intake installed. Another easy one and for a used kit at $150, can't complain again.

    Update with my Xtrons.

So came upon a member, rhfosu, who figured out the speaker noise. I'm extremely satisfied with the head unit.

I was connecting the hi-lo converter incorrectly.

I was connecting it between the rca output wires and the rca input wires. This is wrong.

Go ahead and connect the output rca connectors to the converter as normal. But the input wires have to be spliced in from the main ISO harness coming out of the head unit. The pic below shows the 8 harness wires to cut and splice to the converter wires.

These rca connectors are very handy.

    Black Friday started early!

My cam roller conversion came in from IABED!! Can't wait to get this installed next month.

Upgraded HPFP in house as well. I went with JHM internals.

    Upgrading to R8 coils.

Appointment made next month to get haldex, dsg, engine servicesd with oil and filter. Will install the cam roller kit and the hpfp at the same time. Want to make sure the car is in good health before I go Stage 1 with IE and their TCU tune. If all goes well, I should be tuned before Christmas!

Most tunes are on sale right now.

Went ahead and purchased Integrated Engineering stage 1 tune + their transmission tune = a little over $800.

You won’t regret going with IE. The rev matching downshifts on their TCU tune are perfect.

That's good to hear! I had IE tunes on my S3 and my SQ5. I have been really pleased with their tunes and customer support.

Thanks to CMC, cam follower conversion kit installed and hpfp upgraded!! One design flaw eliminated.

Picked the car up, went home, and immediately flashed the Integrated Engineering stage 1 tune along with the transmission tune. This is a beast daily driver.

    Decisions.

Getting a hand me down Tundra from my brother. It's a beast and totally opposite the TTs.

Thinking about getting rid of the TTs. I can't have more than 3 cars at my condo.

Feeling out if there is any interest. Or get rid of my girlfriends Tiguan and she can drive the TTs. She hates crawling in and out of the TTs though even though she's only 5'1"!!!

So do you still have the TTS?

I'm still waiting on ECS Tuning to ship the IABED follower kit, I have the IE upgraded fuel pump ready to install, got a Unitronic intercooler on order and looks like the APR Stage 1+ software works with the fuel pump but doesn't require downpipe to get to 337 hp/340 ft lbs...

@dubgli I wonder why your 2014 TTS has a 2.0T looks exactly like my 2007 A4 (B7) engine: PCV, Hitachi HPFP, valve cover, cam chain cover, cam follower. What is your 3/4 letter engine code? Mine is BWT. 2007 TT usually has BPY.

Hey, I rarely check this post anymore so late reply.

The MK2 TT-S is still using the tfsi engine and hence has that cam follower flaw. This should be the same engine or very similar engine design in your B7 A4.

The regular Mk2 Audi TT upgraded to the next generation 2.0T engine. Ea888

Further to dub GLI's reply, the MK2 TTS engine code is CDMA.
